Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Explanation
My name is Nikki Kitchens, and I have been a student here at the college since fall of 2018. Throughout that time, I have faced number of challenges in meetings my own goals for success as a student. However, over the summer things in my life have improved significantly to allow me to position myself to remember why I came to college in the first place. There are two majors’ issues that impacted my ability to be successful at school. First, being the death of my beloved grandfather Leroy Gross. He was laid to rest on September 8, 2018. The day I heard the news was a traumatic day for me just like before he passed, I went down there to sit with him for a little while to talk about how he’s been during and school. After he’s death I should have use the counseling services at school to help me relieve some of that pain I was feeling at that time. Also, talk so my instructors on what was going on with me and we come up with a plan so I can pass their class.
This one hit the hardest for me being it was the woman who raised me my beloved mother Susana Kitchens. My mom has been in and out of the hospital for almost 2 ½ years dealing with her health. In the spring of 2019, my mother was readmitted back in the hospital because of her high blood pressure and extreme headaches. The doctors told her that her CT scan showed she had another stroke. This led me to not focus in class and not completely the work on time. I completely understand what was expected of me and I would like to apologize for not meeting that expectation. Fortunately, my academic advisor Brock Giddens and I came up with an excellent plan for this upcoming semester. We schedule classes for Tuesdays-Thursdays, additionally I still have an online math class that’s why I don’t have classes on Monday-Wednesdays. Those are the days where I can catch up with all my work and if I need help sign up for tutoring session in memorial hall and go to Russell to receive help on my writing. I sincerely hope that this appeal shows that I am dedicated to being a successful student here at Middle Georgia State University. Nevertheless, I would like to thank you for giving me this opportunity and if you reinstate me I would show you that school is my main priority.
