Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Causes of the Disease, Methods of Avoidance

Sexually Transmitted Diseases are a contagious illness that is passed through from sexual intercourse. (Felman, A. 2018). It is a major health problem usually amongst high school and college students and is estimated about 50 out of 100 of the said disease happen in teens and young adults ages 15 to 24. According to the World Health Organization about 1 million people acquire sexually transmitted diseases every day worldwide, namely chlamydia, herpes simplex virus, human papilloma virus, and human immunodeficiency virus. STD is one of the modern cause of death today. Our country, Philippines, was recorded as one of the countries who recently gained fast growth for STD. The most common diagnosed by this disease in Philippines are male to male. National Capital Region was recorded for having its 39% of the population infected with the diseases. According to DOH, 1200 people died from AIDS. It was transmitted by blood transfusions. People die because of the virus that is slowly attacking the person’s immune system until it weakens. Within the Philippines, a law was implemented for knowledge about contraception and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, which are the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012 (RA 10354). (Boncocan, K. 2012, December 28).

Individuals who have a Sexually Transmitted Infections might be at an expanded danger of getting a Human Immunodeficiency Virus. (Hayes. 2010, October). One explanation is the practices that place somebody in danger for one contamination not utilizing condoms, different accomplices, and unknown accomplices regularly put them in danger for different diseases. Additionally, on the grounds that STDs such as HIVs will in general be connected when somebody gets the said disease, it proposes they got it from somebody who might be in danger for different STDs. At long last a sore or irritation from an STD may permit contamination with HIV that would have been halted by unblemished skin. The unsafe impacts of STD on human well-being and condition incorporates coronary illness agonizing or consuming sensation not ordinary vaginal dying wounds on the private parts or in the oral territory and a lot more, or wherein it is deductively demonstrated. The main 100% successful approach to maintain a strategic distance from STD’s is to not have vaginal butt-centric or oral sex. In the event that individuals are explicitly dynamic they can do the accompanying things to bring down their odds of getting STDs and HIV: first is to choose less hazardous sexual practices; use another condom for each demonstration of vaginal butt-centric and oral sex all through the whole sex act.

STDs can be threatening, it can destroy one's life. It can be possibly risky especially to sexually active people. Having unprotected sex and multiple partner can put your life in a cliff. Its early signs are sores, bumps, painful urination etc. STDs can affect our body parts like pelvic and heart. In this case, we are prone to arthritis, eye inflammation, infertility, and cancer. As of the moment there is no evident cure for this but there is a medication that makes the virus attack slower than usual, and we can prevent this by abstaining from sex, getting vaccinated, or having your partner's check. The worst thing you can get from STD is having HIV. It attacks the white blood cell which protect people from having infection. That’s why having RH bill teaches us prevention and management of STD’s. It also contains an education that is very needed in orientation for it. Added to that, they offer different contraceptives that can be used as protection. Since 25% are less capable of handling or managing related problems, this could be a good method for them to know or be aware on managing how to treat and handle it. There are many ways to prevent having STD, always avoid sex with anyone, make sure to use a latex condom and water-based lubricant, wash before and after intercourse, take consultation and laboratory tests and avoid sharing towels and underclothing. Treatment for the disease depends on the infection, healthcare use antibiotics that kill bacteria and infections and antiviral drugs that will use daily for better result. There are a lot of kinds of Sexually Transmitted Disease and Infections, some can be acquired through oral sex such as Herpes Simplex Virus-1 also known as Cold Herpes, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia. And most are acquired from genital intercourse such as HSV-2 and the ever-famous HIV and when worsen, AIDS. But do all sexually transmitted diseases can only be acquired during intimate sexual intercourse such as oral, anal, and vaginal sex? According to WebMd, STDs are usually transferred through sexual intercourse but not always. Actions such as kissing, sharing of hygienic items, undergarments, use of an infected syringe, needles, or guns from ear piercing and tattoos can also be a way. You should always be careful with your sex life and hygiene, after all some STDs can’t be cured so you should always practice abstinence, or if you’re sexually active with your partner, practice safe sex. Moreover misconception about being affected by STD includes being discriminate because of the believing that it is communicable by just talking or touching them, believing that only gays can get the disease, but the study shows that any sexual orientation can be a risk especially for those who is sexually active. Also, taking pills can’t protect both partners from STD, but even though condoms are not fully 100% safe, it is the most-efficient contraceptive to protect each other on getting the disease during sexual act compared without using a condom.

To summarize, STDs affect us rapidly especially young people such as teens who are in High School or in College that is why information about it should be taught since the disease is life threatening to human beings. It is important for us to have general knowledge on what are the symptoms and effect of it and how to know if we are being infected by the disease, hence, people who are sexually active always need to have a consultation check-up to a healthcare provider and be completely honest because they are the one that can help to prevent and cure the disease. Always remember that having good communication about having sexual intercourse can help both partners to build trust and less risk of getting the disease. In addition, there is nothing to be ashamed for getting the infection because it is not something that can reflect who you are as a person and other people should not degrade them instead is to lift them up and give them comfort or advice that will make them feel better because STD is an illness. That is the reason why government or schools teach people to be aware about STDs to educate us about the possible situation that can happen and to protect ourselves. We must remember the saying “prevention is better than cure” because several diseases are preventable especially ones that are identified and can help people to know the risk factors of it but some diseases like STDs that is not curable is hard to stop after it infect a person. Remember that having no knowledge, no family planning, and being reckless are only some of the reasons of the outbreak of the said diseases. With the Reproductive Health Law implemented, those factors can now easily be distinguished and help every one to have a more healthier and successful life.
