Shopping Mall: Lost In A World

Have you ever been lost in a mall, but no one came finding you? Well, there was one year I was lost, and that time I will never forget since it was the worst year of my life. I looked everywhere for my parents, but I couldn’t find them. Although the mall is a place where people go for shopping or to pass time or just to have fun. Every day, a mall gets thousands and thousands of visitors. During my visit to the mall, it was packed as numerous sales going on. The shopping mall was as boring as ever but then I saw Santa.

It was a wonderful morning, and I was excited to go to the mall. I woke up and ran to the living room, about to say we’re going to the mall today. My mum stopped me and said, “Shhh! Lower your volume, do not let your sister ruin the birthday surprise we have planned for her.” Mum whispered with her usual silky tone. I then realized it was my sister’s birthday today. As we went out the door, we tiptoed out the house, as quiet as a mouse. We all got into the car, ready to leave. It took a while to reach there. When I got there, I looked around and it was way bigger than I imagined.

The shopping mall buzzing with the crowds of shoppers. People were milling around, window shopping or taking advantage of the great offers. We took the escalator to the clothes department. As I was going down the escalator, the first thing that came to my mind was Santa as everywhere I looked, there were lights and Santa. I am thinking if I could get a photo with Santa today. I was trailing behind my mum and didn’t realize when I lost sight of my mum. When I came back to my senses, I realized I didn’t find my mother anywhere. I panicked. I started crying and shouting out, “Mummy! Daddy!” Wherever I looked, all I could see was people, tons of people. I tried walking into the stores to see if I could find my mom, but then I couldn’t.

My parents thought I was with them. I never knew what to do. I felt so scared and sad. At the time, the mall was about to close in a few hours, there was a very tall man came up to me. He asked, “why are you crying? Are you alright?” I didn’t know what he was saying and what to say back because I didn’t know any English back then. All I knew was mummy and daddy. I didn’t know who he was. He looked very similar to a police guard, so he took me to the information counter to make a report about the lost girl which was me. “We have found a lost girl, around the aged five or six. Can her mother come over to pick up your daughter?”

Five minutes passed. Then ten. At last, my mother came rushing towards me. My mother started hugging me tightly and said, “why weren’t you following me and just wander off?” I didn’t know what to say after and then I started crying, louder and louder. Back then I was only 5 or 6 years old. At that time my mum didn’t have a phone and if she did, I wouldn’t even know what’s her number. This was truly an unforgettable day but recalling it I realized how I must have felt that day. After that experience, I also realized it was easy to get lost in a shopping mall.
