Immigration Discrimination: A Social Issue Examined

Currently, there exists some immigration discrimination in that individual employees are treated differently by their employers depending on their citizenship status. Immigration discrimination takes form in many abusive ways such as lots of paperwork indicating one’s citizenship status. Even though the rate of crime and terrorism instances have installed fear among people, there should be no individual discriminated against due to his/her status of nationality. Discrimination of people by their citizenship status is unethical and can affect the smooth running of the economy as skilled immigrants may fail to comfortably apply their skills more productively.
Discrimination of people based on their citizenship status is illegal. According to the Immigration Reform and Control Act, individuals who face employment discrimination based on their citizenship are protected by federal law. Such laws include the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) which covers most of the immigration matters and it protects people from being discriminated against by their employers. The anti-discrimination law does not legalize the discrimination of any individual having a foreign status to be treated unfairly during the hiring of employees. Potential discrimination on citizenship matters which are considered to be illegal is: not being recruited because one is from a foreign nationality. Muslim and Asian may be asked for their authorization papers while African American employees are not, meaning that the discrimination is incorporating the vices of racism. Therefore, discrimination causes disintegration of the values of human rights and reduces the development impact that foreign citizens may bring into a country hence decreasing the rate at which the national economy of the country grows.
States which discourage discrimination based on citizenship of the individual employees engage in using various manpower in production which increases their national income. This is more beneficial than employing incompetent workers who are citizens of one's own country and discriminating against the skilled non-citizen potential workers. New York City, which is known to have millions of people in the workplace of which most of which are non-citizens and this does not hinder the City to exist as the world’s financial capital base. The public should therefore learn to respect the law of the land by treating everyone equally. The immigrants also increase the national income of a nation by paying taxes and exporting their skills abroad in case they work online. The Millennium Declaration of the importance of human rights and non-discrimination for development advocates for the equal exercise of justice to all people despite their nationality status or skin color.
Discrimination is unethical and can cause a country to scandalize its economic development success if allowed. People should learn to accept citizens from other nations as equals and provide them with the appropriate job opportunity that they deserve according to their qualifications. Equal jurisdiction should also be exercised in the execution of justice between foreign citizens and those who are citizens of that country by birth. The values of loyalty and hard work may be largely utilized by citizens from foreign countries since they do not want to ruin their reputation in the country of those who are citizens of the land. It is therefore unwise and illogical to discriminate against people by their nationality other than their qualifications and skills that they can help the country within the job sector.
