The fictional television series follows the lives of Spongebob squarepants and his friends in Bikini Bottom located under the sea in their daily activities and series of adventures.

The Spongebob Squarepants animated television series has received lots of positive reviews even from critics and an excellent rating. This animated series is accepted worldwide given that appeals to both young and old. Spongebob Squarepants has received numerous Awards and nominations including four Emmy Awards, two BAFTA Children's Awards, six Annie Awards, sixteen Kids Choice Awards, eight Golden Reel Awards amongst others. Its popularity and widespread acceptance made it a media franchise accumulating billions of dollars as its revenue.

Stephen Hillenburg who happens to be the creator of Spongebob Squarepants for nickelodeon is actually a Marine Biologist and a Marine Science Educator who graduated from the Humboldt State University where he obtained his degree, he later found a true passion in animation and arts and pursued a career in it, he proceeded to the California Institute of Arts.

Some Celebrities Has Appeared on the Show

Initially Stephen Hillenburg who was the creator of Spongebob Squarepants for nickelodeon kicked against the idea of having big stars lending their voices on the show because he didn't want the show to be in any way compared to The Simpsons and also he'd love the show simple and hilarious void of big commercial celebrities however when Stephen Hillenburg resigned from being the show runner, other A-lister celebrities made appearances on the Spongebob Squarepants, lending their voices on the show. Squiward is one of the popular recurring characters on this show who likes minding his business and doesn't tolerate other Bikini Bottom occupants that much. Now many fans of this show thinks Squiward is actually a squid while others thinks he's both a squid and an octopus. Actually, creators of the Spongebob Squarepants animated series says that Squiward is an octopus not squid as most people think. Though this character has only six tentacles instead of the usual eight that octopuses have, the creators felt that giving Squiward eight tentacles would have over weighed the character. So the ever minding-his-business Squiward is an octopus.

Mushooms Named After the Protagonist

Did you know that in 2011, a fungi that was newly discovered by researchers at the San Francisco State University was named after Spongebob Squarepants. The new species of mushroom was said to look like the yellow sponge thereby naming it Spongiforma Squarepantsii.

Justin Timberlake and the TV Series

Popular musician and actor Justin Timberlake was not accepted to sing on the show. Original creator and show Runner Stephen Hillenburg who was very adamant about not wanting any of those big commercial superstars to feature in the show did not welcome Justin Timberlake when he wanted to do a duet of a particular song on the Spongebob show. Hillenburg stated that he didn't like any of those commercial superstars.

Which makes one wonder if our favourite Krusty Krab restaurant is truly what it is or a lobster trap facade? The Longest Nickelodeon TV Series!

Spongebon Squarepants is Nickelodeon's longest running animated television series with a total of 12 seasons and over 247 episodes. This television animated series has indeed fetched nickelodeon a very good sum given its worldwide acceptance, critical acclaims, numerous awards and nominations.


To sum up, Spongebob the essay can be add that some certain conservative group of people perceived Spongebob and his best dummy buddy, Patrick (a star fish) to be gays in a video portraying Spongebob and Patrick that was meant to promote tolerance and diversity, this video was released in 2005.
