Student – Professor Relationships & Rules

Student – professor relationship

Equatorial Guinea is the only Spanish-speaking country in Africa, situated in central West Africa. It shares borders with Cameroon and Gabon. You have the opportunity to learn both Spanish and French, if you study in Equatorial Guinea because both are official languages. “Studying in Equatorial Guinea affords students the opportunity to explore tropical rainforest ecosystems,” (2016, July 14, study abroad, Equatorial Guinea); furthermore, it has ten ethnic groups so that you can learn their culture. You can also enjoy its beautiful beaches.

Communicating with your instructors is part of college success, so it is good for you to build relationship with your professor, in order to know them better. Take your time to learn their personalities, after that, find ways to communicate. You should respect your instructors and should not fear them. Here, are some guidelines for getting along with and communicating with Equatorial Guinea’s professors.

Communication method

The only way you talk to your professor is face to face. They do not give students their email or phone number. You may ask, how you can let them know that you are sick and cannot show up in class. If, you do not feel well write a respectful letter to the professor letting know what is going on with you. Prepare before going to the meeting. There is no need to make appointment with the professor by email. Feel free to meet the professors in their office and talk to them. Not everyone can remember what the professor says in class. So make note on what you did not understand in class and write down your specific questions. Make sure you are a good note-taking and present those points to the professor. You may have a question about the comment he or she has written on your test, please do not be afraid to ask for clarification.

Introduce yourself

If you rarely participate in class discussion, do not assume your professor has learned your name yet and introduce yourself; however, if you are a popular student, there is no need to introduce yourself because the professor already know you. It is good to call him “professor,” unless your professors ask you to address them by their name. When I was in high school, there was not need to me to introduce myself to my professors because I was a popular student in school. I used to get along with my professors and create a good link with them. Now, I feel intimidate to talk with my professors, especially when I need their extra help. Meet the professors in working hours. Few instructors have their own office. If you want to talk to the instructor, meet him or her in working hours. Those who do not have, you should talk to them after class.

Avoid annoying the professors

I know some professors give too much homework. For example, school start a week ago and you are already swamped with assignments. But, if you want to success in class you better do it all. According to college success website, “to earn your professor’s respect, come to class prepared, do the work, participate genuinely in class, and your professor will be happy to see you when you come to office hours or need some extra help,” (2015,December 04).

Be professional when communicating with the instructor

Some professor love getting along their students, but it does not mean you can go to their office as you want just to chat or joke around; therefore, keep the link you create with your professor professionally. It is better to know that professors will be always our best resource for becoming an outstanding student.

Participate in class

To build a good communication with the professor, you should participate in class discussion. Do not ask question just waste time because the professor can send you out of the classroom. Additionally, you should pass the entire class without saying anything. You should always get involved in school activities. Avoid talking with your classmates during class and wait the break-time to talk with them.

Play with a phone in class

Cell phones are not allowed in class. Make sure you have it on silent or turn it off, because if your phone rings during the class, the professor can take it and you cannot get it back until the next day. Respect yourself by paying attention in class and avoid annoying your classmates. In my first second week in high school, I forget to turn off my phone during my math class. So that the professor took my phone, and he gave it to me back the following day.

Classes

All classes are important and you should take all of them. It is suggested that, you choose a good place to seat in a classroom to get well what the instructor says. Ask questions on what you did not understand at the end of class.

In conclusion, college education is a great process, which students and instructors communicating freely share they point of view and information. Improve your communication skill in college environment and do not be afraid to ask your instructors for help. If you want to success as student, get along with your professor and gain knowledge from them. Try your best to rea your goals.
