Technology Role In Transformation Of Writers And Authors

Introduction

Technology has played an important role in the transformation of book writers and publishers through various ways. For instance, the speed at which the information reaches the readers has increased tremendously. A person in Asia can read a new book printed in America after uploading on the same day as the American. Additionally, marketing of the books is easier because of the worldwide reach of the internet which also allows consumers to buy the books online. The speed has increased, marketing is easy, selling is done online, and books can be translated online.

Speed

In everything that people undertake, speed is of essence and if a product fails to reach the target audience on time, it does not sell as intended. According to Gugane (2014), technology increased the speed required by writers and the publishers to reach the masses. Indeed, the author or the publisher of the book just needs to upload the book online and it reaches the masses within no time. Also, the rate of publishing was made easier while the authors can collect the required materials online without much hustle. Also, technology has resulted in the invention of superior machines and equipment that have greatly enhanced the speed of writing and publishing. Easy marketing According to Gugane (2014), technology has made it easy to market books. There are various platforms such as the social media and marketing sites such as the Amazon that the publisher or the author can use in marketing of their works. These channels have worldwide reach enabling the marketer to reach thousands of potential readers with ease and at a low cost.

Moreover, Libraries (2014) and PWC posits that the emergence of e-book and e-reader has transformed the industry since the readers have turned from physical book to screen reading can now access the materials online. Amazon has also introduced an app know as Kindle where avid readers can get whatever they want without downloading. Moreover, the writer can receive the audience response fast and rectify if there is any problem. Selling Online In the earlier days, selling books was a tiresome task since the publishers had to take them to the stores where interested individuals would look for them. However, this is a thing of the past since the online websites such as eBay and Amazon allow the writers to sell their books online. The emergence of internet, online banking and the credit cards transformed the mode of marketing since buyers are not required to be present at the store when making the purchases. They can easily do this online and the book is delivered to them at home or the place of their choice. With the availability of online selling, the products can be bought by millions of people within a short time earning the writers and publishers millions of dollars.

Translation

Books are usually written in one language before being translated into another. Currently, most books are available in a single language making it difficult for potential readers who cannot understand the language to access the materials. Fortunately, Gugane (2014) suggests that the availability of translation software have made it possible for such individuals to read books written in different languages.

Conclusion

Unlike some industries where technology has had a disruptive effect, book industry has benefitted immensely. The books reach the readers fast and customers can make the purchases online. Also, people from different regions can read similar book. However, lazy writers should desist from collecting all materials online since it would have a negative effect while translation software should be improved to avoid information distortion.
