Charismatic leadership theory recognizes the exceptional attributes that motivate and inspire followers. It provides a connection between captivating leaders and their supporters. Research shows that individuals who portray charismatic leadership are remarkably and overpowering. They communicate and influence their vision onto other people, set high standards, take care of their followers' requirements, and carry on in unusual ways. Specialists confirm that charismatic leadership appears during emergency circumstances, when the leader is of high position, when uncertain and chaotic assignments are assigned, and when rewards are not given. These conditions give chances to charismatic leaders to perform change and to develop their vision. Charming leaders are naturally motivated and focused on defining and meeting their objectives. They are generally strategic and work in association with their followers to recognize issues and attempt problems and risks. They keep up an maintain their character while giving an ability to sense the direction that assists followers with accomplishing both authoritative and individual objectives. This paper will discuss the history, characteristics, and benefits of charismatic leadership, how to become a charismatic leader, and examples of leaders who have made their legacies for leading with a great deal of charm.

History of charismatic leadership

In 1958, German humanist Max Weber previously distributed his book 'The Three Kinds of Real Rule' (Mulder, 2019). In his book, he presents three characterizations of authority for associations and management, traditional, bureaucratic, and charismatic ('The Art of Charm: The Charismatic Leadership Theory', 2019). He believed leaders used all three characteristics but to various extents or proportions.

Charismatic has been defined as 'extraordinary power and applied to a certain quality of an individual personality under which he is considered extraordinary and treated as endowed with supernatural, superhuman, or at least specifically exceptional powers or qualities.' (Hansen, 2001) Organizations that utilize standards rely upon the proposal of their vision to motivate representatives, followers, and staff. Charismatic leaders use standards to create a compelling emotional association with individuals who work for them. According to Tuomo Takala, 'at any given point in time, it is possible for the charismatic leader, to be motivated by one or more needs such as the needs for affiliation, power, and achievement.' (Takala, 2004)

Charismatic leaders are regularly distinguished during an emergency and show outstanding dedication to and skill in their areas of expertise. Often, they are individuals with a vision in business or legislative matters and the capacity to draw in a large group of spectators. However, this theory does not concentrate solely on the leader. More than other well-known leadership styles, charismatic leadership relies upon the character and activities of the leader and not the procedure.

Characteristics and Power

According to author David Weedmark, he explains the typical characteristics of leaders with charisma are known to be the following:

  2. Visionary
  3. Sensitive to their environment and the needs of their employees
  4. Motivated toward personal risk-taking
  5. Proficient at using unusual behavior (Weedmark, 2019)

Takala states, 'the first step in gaining insight into the concept of empowerment in the workplace is to examine the notion of power itself and how it influences the process of empowerment, be it from the perspective of organizational leadership or the perspective of the employees.' (Takala, 2004) In the focused world, people ceaselessly take a stab at power and authority over their condition. It is the most basic and most effectively perceived of basic needs. Charismatic leadership are known or should require referent power and expert power (Rao, 2010) According to the lecture in session 9, 'the ability to influence others through one's desirable traits and characteristics' (Redd, 2019). Expert power is derived from specific specialized knowledge, information, and skills. 'Expert power and referent power contribute to charisma' (Redd, 2019)
