The Biggest Taxes On The Thirteen Colonies
The thirteen colonies are also known as the thirteen British Colonies. They live on the Atlantic coast of North America, and they were found in the 17th and 18th centuries. The American colonies always want to be apart from Great Britain for so many reasons, so they declared themselves in 1776. There are many reasons for the 13 colonies to fight for their independence. After independence from Britain, the American colonies had their own declaration of independence, however the goals and ideals explained in the Declaration of Independence didn’t apply to everybody.
The first important reason why the American colonies want to declare is that the American colonists will be able to alliance with the government of France and will get their help in the war against Great Britain only if the colonists declare themselves an independent nation. Another reason is that the citizens in American colonies did not have the same rights as people who lived in Great Britain, and they feel they are not being treated fairly. When the colonies were part of Britain, they weren't allowed to send representatives to Parliament, and they weren't allowed to vote for taxes. The colonists always want their freedom and to govern themselves, but Britain restricted many powers to the colonists. That’s why the American colonies decide that they have to declare and fight for their independence.
After the French and Indian War, Britain was in debts and needed money to pay for the debts. They believed they could tax the colonies to make some money, so they decided to require many kinds of taxes from the colonies. The Stamp Act was one of the biggest taxes that Britain passed in 1765, and Townshend Acts was another one that passed in 1767. The American colonies feel so angry and don’t think they should pay for these taxes, so they were protesting because they believe these taxes violated their right as a citizen of Britain. When they couldn’t stand it anymore, in 1775, George Washington was selected to be the Commander in Chief to lead a continental army, and ready to fight for their right. The continental army consisted of the thirteen colonies.
The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776, but the Declaration didn’t apply to all the citizens. The Declaration wasn’t mentioned to women, Native Americans, and African American. In Jefferson’s rough Draught of the Declaration of Independence, he mentioned, “That all men are created equal
