The Causes And Effects Of Obesity
In this essay I will be addressing why obesity is an important subject within health and wellbeing at present. Obesity still affects around one in four people that are adults and one in every 5 children around the ages of ten to eleven years old that live within the United Kingdom.
Obesity and overweight are condition where an individual has gained a large amount of body fat and which can cause a negative outcome on the individuals health. It’s has been stated by health professionals that if an individual has an 20% higher bodyweight than what it should have been, then they will be considered obese if its anything higher than the 20% then they would be considered as overweight. The main cause of obesity is by consuming so much calories, mainly with unhealthy sugary and fatty foods, if these types of food are not burnt off through exercise then the extra energy from those food will be stored as fat.
Obesity is still a common a topic that discussed within health and wellbeing because it has been an increasing problem for a lot of people that live a modern life style as they usually opt for a high calorie cheap foods and then they would spend an excessive amount of time not exercising but instead sitting down on the sofa at home or at a desk when at work and not walking but instead using a car to travel around. Many individuals find it easier to just eat unhealthy food compared to healthy foods as it contains less calories and sugary which is unappealing especially to children as at this age they want the sugary foods.
Being obese can lead to other serious health problems such as type 2 diabetes, asthma, liver and kidney disease, high blood pressure, heart diseases, different types of cancers such as breast and bowel cancer and it can even lead to a stroke. Obesity can affect an induvial daily activities as they will get shortness of breath often, excessively sweating as they are going to have trouble doing physical activities and often feeling very tired as their joints and back hurt. There’s also a mental effect of obesity as it can affects a person self-esteem about how they feel about their body and this can cause them to have low confidence and eventually might end up isolating themselves from society.
Obesity is not long-term health problem and can be self-treated by eating a healthy balanced diet as that will give them just enough amount of calories within their diet, whilst including physical actives daily such as fast walking, jogging, swimming for couple of hours within the week. They can also try eating slower so that they can avoid overeating. If an individual is unbale them be given help by doctors either through diet plans by a dietitian, surgery or weigh loss supplements. To summarie obesity can be controlled if the right information and resources are given to the public so they are more aware of what they are consuming.
