The Crisis Of World Hunger: A Rising Of People's Number

With as many human advancements as man made throughout history, world hunger continues. By exploring the many political factors and human apathy toward the poor, it is clear that if steps to resolve this problem are not taken society itself will continue to fail its most vulnerable members. World hunger is hunger applicated to the planet Earth. Similar terms include malnutrition and food insecurity. Malnutrition happens from excesses, imbalances, or deficiencies, in the consumption of both macro and micro-nutrients. All hungry people suffer from malnutrition, but people who are malnourished are not just hungry. They get the sufficient raw calories to not be hungry but, are missing important micronutrients, or they might consume too many numbers of raw calories and therefore suffer from obesity. Food insecurity happens when people are at worried about or at risk of not being able to meet their liking for food, including raw calories and nutritional value. All hungry people are food insecure, but not all food-insecure people are hungry. Food insecurity quite often results in stunted growth for children, and obesity for adults. The physical sensation of hunger has to do with contractions of the stomach muscles. These contractions also called hunger pangs when they become severe they are triggered by high amounts of the ghrelin hormone.

The hormones Leptin and Peptide YY have an opposite effect on the person’s appetite, causing the sensation of being full. Ghrelin can be released if blood sugar levels get low which is a condition that can result from long periods without eating. Stomach contractions from hunger can be even more severe and painful in children and young adults. Hunger pangs are made worse by irregular meals. People who can’t afford to eat more than once a day often refuse additional meals, because if they don’t eat at around the same time on the next days, they might suffer from more severe hunger pangs. Older people might feel less violent stomach contractions when they get hungry, but suffer the secondary effects from low food intake. The effects include irritability, weakness, and decreased concentration. Time without the right nutrition also causes disease and lowered ability for the body to self heal. Throughout history there have been a number of global Phenomenon’s that have impacted our world in great ways. World hunger on the other hand is a very distinct problem that we have dealt with since the world was created. Parts of the world's population have often been through sustained periods of hunger. In many cases, hunger resulted from disruptions of food supply caused by plagues, adverse weather or war. In the decades following World War II, enhanced political cooperation and technological progress suggested it may be possible to increasingly reduce the number of people suffering from hunger. By 2015 the threat of extreme hunger reduced for many of the world's population.

In 2019 however, the amount of people suffering from chronic hunger has been increasing over the last four years. As a percentage of the world's population afflicted with hunger is about 821 million in 2018. Through history, the need to help those that are hungry has been commonly recognized. A social historian Karl Polanyi wrote that before food markets became the world's dominant form of economic organization in the 19th century, a lot of human groups would either starve together or not at all, because people would voluntarily share their food. A philosopher Simone weil wrote that giving food to the hungry when you have more than enough resources to do so is the most obvious of all human obligations. As far back as Ancient Egypt, many believed that people had to show they helped the hungry in order to justify themselves in the afterlife. Although many people tried to help the hungry, not everyone did. Historical hunger relief efforts were most of the time left to religious organizations and just personal kindness. In the early modern times, political leaders reacted to famine with confusion and avoidance. From the first years of globalization, which began in the 19th century, it became more common for the people with more power to consider problems like hunger. However, as early globalization happened at the same time as the influence for classical liberaism, there wasn’t that many politicians to address world hunger. If world hunger continues it will just lead us to more problems. One of the problems is that each day approximately 795 million people are malnourished. They don’t get enough nutritious food to eat each day and consume a lot less than the minimum amount of calories needed for good health and growth. Another Problem is that hunger kills more people each year than malaria, AIDS, and tuberculosis all together. Bad nutrition causes 45% of deaths in children under five. Each year, around 3. 1 million children die from hunger related causes. The next problem is that hunger has a very negative impact on health, productivity, and sense of hope.

Also a lack of food can also stunt growth and contribute to developmental disabilities. Another problem is in Africa, 23 million children go to school hungry. When children are hungry, they can find it very difficult to concentrate. An example would be in Zimbabwe, children would faint in class because of how hungry they were. Lastly, another problem would be that one third of the food produced globally is wasted, costing the global economy around $750 billion dollars every year. There are tons of political factor to world hunger but, here is one of the President of the United States of America. Trump and his administration posted a public charge rule in August 12, 2019. The rule would increase hunger and poverty through the nation. Trump and his administration have led to bad effects on the use of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which is the U. S. biggest program for hunger and other important nutrition assistance programs, resulting in more poverty and a hungrier country. Not only are Trumps decisions reckless and stupid, those decisions are affecting families and kids.

The World Trade Organization, The World Bank, the World Food Program, The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, the Millennium Challenge, the U. S. Department of Agriculture, and industrial powers like Syngenta, Cargill, Archer, DuPont, Monsanto, Yara Fertilizer, and Daniels Midland, avoid questions or anything that has to do with world hunger. The “solutions” they give are put in the same technologies and policies that created the problem in the first place. They suggest de-regulated global trade in agricultural commodities, increased food aid, and more genetic fixes and technological. For this reason, there has been little to none leadership in the crisis of world hunger. Neither has there been any public debate about the reasons the numbers of hungry people are growing, or what we can do about it.
