All About Hate: Understanding the Complexities of the Human Emotion

An emotion I hate to feel (essay)

When writing an essay about hate, it is essential to understand its multifaceted nature and how it can manifest in various forms. Hate is not limited to everyday situations like a teacher giving too much homework or a washing machine not getting a stain out of a shirt. In today's world, hate can also be directed towards individuals or entire groups based on their race, ethnicity, gender, or religious belief. Hate can invoke feelings of animosity, anger, or resentment, and it can escalate into hate crimes that are punishable by law. Therefore, understanding the complexities of hate is crucial when writing an essay about hate.

The number of mentions of this term in cases is growing. In 2017, there were 7,000 mentions of 'hate crime. ' People are using this term more than ever, whether it is an accurate description of what happened or not. It can be easily be inferred that America's idea of what hate means is skewed. Hate can be more than just prejudice, bigotry, bias, or anger. Hate can be seen as to stand for a particular idea or belief, or set of beliefs, with a specific object or group of objects. This makes the word less toxic and controversial. This idea of seeing hate as a way of separating someone's beliefs from others is an opinion that most people do not care to listen too. They know hate only as an emotion they feel when they are disturbed by a statement or action. Perhaps this way of thinking is of no concern to those debating over this word. Hate is mostly, at times, subjective. Hate is everywhere. At some point in human evolution, being able to know who was friend or foe was not merely a matter of philosophical reflection. It was a matter of survival. Even today, it seems impossible to feel love without also feeling hate. Humans are social beings. Humans will continue to associate and disassociate with each other. Although many wish that one can work without the other, unfortunately, it does not.

The reason for this is that humans are opinionated creatures. Opinions allow the world to progress and expand, but these opinions do cause confrontations at times which lead to hatred amongst humans. People sometimes get angry and are “filled” with hatred if another individual does not feel the same way they do. Examples of this vary; however, there are many topics such as politics, religion, or social outlooks on current views. Most of the time, people contain little or no hate towards people of other backgrounds, places, or ethnicities. Occasional insulting of another person, intentionally or not, results in oneself picking out the details of that person's appearance or behavior. These impulses are so spontaneous they can be described as involuntary. The emotional response caused by hate has sparked many significant points in the human race. Hate caused Hitler to perform a mass genocide killing 6 million Jews. Hate allowed for the Jim Crow Laws to go into effect that enforced racial segregation in the Southern United States. Hate for America caused Osama bin Laden to enact a terrorist act upon the country. Hate can mean violent and destructive behavior. Hate leads to mass shootings, terrorist attacks, and war. Hate leads to schoolmates bullying each other and ruining another person's self-worth, even deciding to take a person’s life due to hate. Sigmund Freud defined hate as an emotional state that wishes to destroy the source of its unhappiness. Freud is very accurate. It seems that genuine kindness is impossible in relationships without hating and being hated. There can not be one without the other.

Hate is an emotion, plain and simple. It is stronger than disliking something. It is an intense passion for dislike, a loathing, that fuels and encompasses a person. Defining hate as an intense emotion adds to the fact that hate should not be used to describe minor inconveniences that a person is faced with. True hate should be used to describe something that is harmful and toxic to humans. Hate can cause people to act upon their emotions, and as stated before, some horrific events have happened because of this feeling. Hate’s denotation and connotations should be considered heavily, and anyone who uses this word to describe how they feel should think and see if that statement is accurate. This is a powerful word that can change someone's future, which it has done already in some “hate crimes. ” Hate can be found on social media, newspaper articles, the news media, and even at school. Hate is a word surrounded by controversy, and it always will be. It will never completely dissipate because there will always be good and evil; there will always be love and hate.
