The History of Wifi Invention

Whether it be Google, whatsapp, facebook, GPS or any other media app, the basic requirement for all of them

WiFi, or 802.11 was built mainly to replace Ethernet using wireless communication. In 1991, NCR Corporation and AT&T Corporation invented the building step to 802.11, to be used in cashier systems, under the name WaveLAN. WiFi was invented and first provided to customers in 1997, when a group called 802.11 was created, led by John O’Sullivan. After various experiments they were successful to invent IEEE802.11 as a research product of CSIROt. Hence, Dr O'Sullivan and his colleagues are credited with inventing Wi-Fi. Following this, a basic structure for WiFi was built, allowing 2 mps of data getting tranferred wirelessly. This started a development in routers to use IEEE802.11 and in 1999, wifi was widely being used by many at home Its goal was to provide off-the-shelf, easy to implement, easy to use short-range wireless connectivity.

Biography

John O’Sullivan was born on 29 May 1955 in Australia. From birth he was focussed to become an engineer and pursue the career when he got the opportunity. As he got a job offer from Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) after completing various engineering courses and mastering them. Over time, John got promoted to Minister of Job and innovation. Under this designation only, he was able to invent the wifi. CSIRO is a well known company running since 1916 with the motto of “ We imagine. We collaborate. We innovate.”.With time it built 3 proceding agencies Advisory Council of Science and Industry (1916–1920), Institute of Science and Industry (1920–1926) and CSIR (1926–1949). Currently CSIRO has a 6,000 big family with employees under different designations working hard to invent and make lives of people easier.

Wifi has improved the lives of many people by making many daily tasks easy, accessible and faster. Wi-Fi is wireless LAN, one of the most important improvements of the computer networking which allows the users to connect to the internet without wires and with ease. Wifi can be used for a number of daily tasks which are even hard to list. Some of them are data transfer, wireless communication ( routers ) for up to 20 metres. Wifi connection gives a faster and reliable communication method in a low price range. Hence, it can be used for free at restaurants or coffee shops. It sends out data to LAN and WAN network and these networks allow any connection without using cords. You can take your laptop where ever you want with the option of having a wireless connection with the help of the routers and the adapters. In addition, Hot spots are connected through Wi-FI which allows people to always stay connected through Wi-Fi in case of emergencies. Furthermore, Wi-Fi connects the Internet of everything applications that consumers want today , like light bulbs, cameras and home monitoring

How it works

Wi-Fi is a single technology that can help make all connections seamless. Wifi has high quality security systems that gives customers a peace of mind for security and privacy which allows the customer to know who is accessible to the network because of the maximum security. Just like mobile phones, GPS, communication satellites and more wifi also uses radio waves to transfer information across a network.

Almost all modern day computers have a in built wireless adaptor that translates data being sent into a radio signal. This signal is then caught by the router that works as a decoder. The decoded data is then sent to the Internet via and Ethernet connection and vice versa. As wifi works as a two-way traffic, the data received from the internet will also pass through the router to be coded into a radio signal that will be received by the computer's wireless adapter.

Environment connection

Wifi modems and routers are mostly recyclable and don’t harm the environment that much. Though being a part of technology the extraction of metals sometimes possess harm to the environment but the companies and government take all measures to reduce the threat or by replacing those metals by something greener and environment friendly.
