The Impact Of New Technology On The News Production Process In The Newsroom

Introduction: Driven by new technologies and new social demands, many new professional fields have emerged within existing professions, and journalism is no exception. Within the realm of journalism studies, those newly emerged professions, and the possibility that they may have changed the existing understanding of different concepts, always constitute a valuable research theme for commentators. Analysts often focus on the influence of new technologies, as seen in the number of studies that have appeared on printing technology, broadcast technology, and now internet technology. However, since new technologies and the means of using them are developing and changing all the time, any new research into the influence of new technology can still exploit the opportunity to fill a gap within the existing literature.

Body: In journalism studies particularly, many contemporary researchers influenced by new internet technologies continue to prove that assumptions made through technological determinism and concluded by news media researchers prior to 2000 were too optimistic to make much sense in a more complicated social context. In this sense, instead of universal research which simply highlights the advantages of the internet, more detailed study within a specific political-economic context should be conducted in order to offer new perspectives on the changing landscape of journalism.

How using technologies in journalism affect old way of newsroom? Time and racing of spear new news are the most important things in journalism, new techs provide these 2 issues at any time with low cost and don’t need hard work to be done. Today Internet controls everything in our life and it’s an easy way to transmit everything even the hot news so the easily and quick with consider the cost made the new techs start to take new way in journalism to provide excellent image of spreading news and to gain the first place in journalism world all over the world. Comparing between old way and new way to spreading news: As we know preparing journalism story has steps must be done at first and they are:

  1. Planning the story
  2. Producing the material
  3. Setting up the story
  4. Quality control
  5. Production reviewIn the old way it takes lots of effort, time and cost to produce news based on above steps as well many human resources playing the role in build, control and follow all of them.

And this cost the company so much. However, the new way (using technology) can reduce all needed resources and requirements as well some automated programs can help doing work automatically. So that was a very effective member to use new technologies.

  • We see TVs, radios, mobiles, Computers, websites takes almost the entire rule in newsroom, beside social media that controls humans life which plays the first rule in news and journalism spreading in easily and quickly way beside some safe as well no need for paper so saving trees from being cut.
  • Not to forget credibility of news, cheating can be found in both old and new journalism world but recently it becomes to get lower since many resources spread the same news and the goal is to get more funs of the owner of the news journalism.

Discussion 2 theories: Creative destruction: Adopted by Schumpeter, The first idea was inspired by the balance and the prophetic second prophecy about the end of capitalism. Development according to his convictions is an unrelated process, a boom and stagnation, but it continues gradually, the self-centered leader takes the lead in it, and for the purposes of analysis Schumpeter launched the following assumptions:

  1. The rule of the product which adapts to the taste of the people and suit the quality of the products offered in the market.
  2. The economy works at full operational level, but there are opportunities that only the self-employed leaders who seize the opportunity to exploit will see.
  3. If rational calculations can’t be ascertained to a degree of certainty in an uncertain world, adventure is the norm in the rush of business to invest.

Disruptive innovation theory: Adopted by Clayton Christensen, A theory that can be used to describe the impact of modern technology (revolutionary change) on the company's existence.

In 1997, Clayton Christenson published his first book on the technology of fragmentation: “When the modern technology caused the failure of the big companies”. By doing what good companies are supposed to do - in terms of targeting more customers and channeling investments where there is a more attractive profit margin - the leader in the founding industry becomes on the path of the remaining innovations and leaves themselves vulnerable to technological disruption to bury them. This occurs because resource-based resource conversions are designed to maximize profits through remaining innovations, mainly involving good design and mouse trap for existing customers or penetrating segments of the market.

When fragmented innovations appear (particularly cheaper, simpler to use than existing products targeting low end or whole new customers), they cripple established firms. They have the urge to penetrate high markets instead of defending the new or the low end of the markets. Finally, shredding innovation improves, steals many marketing quotas, and replaces the dominant product. Fragmented creativity requires a separate process strategy. This process should be contingency focused on unexpected opportunities, problems and success, rather than focusing on a better understanding of what works and what does not. Instead of designing products and services that address the current behavior of existing customers, people-oriented goals must be consistent with the design of innovations. Understanding what people really need is generally far from available. Disruptive businesses can’t make very high quick profits, for their nature in terms of addressing the new market, the low end of existing markets and the adventurism increasingly rely on a little patience in business to receive my profits.

Finally journalists must still existing on the real land where a new event happens regardless technologies and its facilities since they are a very confidence source and work effectively.

Conclusion: As a result new technologies takes place and continue to improve in all fields supplying all requirements to achieve the goal in receiving all news as fast as possible, facilitating life and saving time. Beside many theories that support or fight the use of new technologies in journalism world based on individual reviews and experiences.
