Making Informed Choices: the Importance of Decision Making
I am going to reveal an important topic within the importance of decision making essay. So why decision making is Important in one's life? We make decisions according to our desires, our preferences and usually what we are comfortable with. A lot of our decisions are influenced by external factors such as peer pressure, elders' advice and so on. But making decisions is one of the most important aspects of our life. In fact, it is not difficult to make a case for it being the most important thing since we make thousands of decisions each day. But we don't remember many of them since they are not that significant. But some of them carry a lot of weight in our life. They turn out to be life turning decisions. They affect the way we live our life.
As engineering students we had made some really important decisions in past few years. Since after our tenth we had to decide our college for science and then we had to decide our engineering college and I am pretty sure these last few years had definitely changed our perspective on the outer world. So from the evidence we can conclude that it is really important to know what decision to make?
To demonstrate the importance of decision making I want to share a narrative of a song 'How much a Dollar cost?' by Kendrick Lamar. Here the narrator of the song is playing the role of a rich arrogant rapper who is driving a luxury car. He is arrogant of everything he has achieved in his life from knowledge of Bible scriptures to incredible wealth he made from being a musician. He also thinks that he has helped people from every walk of life. So basically the narrative of song takes place in a petrol pump where the narrator is filling up the car where he encounters a beggar who begs for ten rand which was equivalent to one American dollar at that time. Initially the narrator ignores him due to his appearance in thought of he might leave quickly. The beggar stresses about drought the place was recently hit but the narrator wasn't convinced and thought he is asking money to buy drugs. Then the beggar replied that he has defeated temptation and can take care of himself. The narrator's temptation is building up and if he had bat in his hand he would throw at the beggar's neck. The narrator justifies his anger saying that he wasn't the reason why he is homeless and hence the beggar should behave as such. The beggar keeps staring at the narrator and then finally asks him has he ever opened Exodus 14? Exodus 14 is a lesson in Bible which tells story of Moses and his kindness. The narrator who considers himself a scholar of knowledge of Bible fuels up and his ego is hurt a bit and makes it clear that he has no desire to give him any money after listening that. Beggar still tries to convince him but the narrator declines for the final time. A moment later the beggar reveals himself as the God and tells the narrator that lack of his empathy has costed him a spot in the heaven.
In conclusion to the importance of making decisions essay, I see this song as a metaphor for how decision of not giving a Dollar or small decision in retrospect has a long-lasting consequence. The other lesson we get from this story is that humans shouldn't judge other people on the basis of their appearance or the group they are associated with. Similar lesson we can learn is that we should have certain confidence in the knowledge while making any decision. The narrator didn't even received a hint after the beggar was testing his knowledge of Bible and made it apparent that he isn't a regular beggar.
