The Importance of History Knowledge - a Power in Knowing the Past
First of all, I must say that history is the whole of our lives, the causes and motivations of any of our actions. If a people does not know or does not study its history, it is condemned to make the same mistakes or mistakes again. To cotinue my 'The importance of history' essay I believe that everything returns and returns always, it is a cycle, if we do not know the past we could commit the things that happened and that have already been learned.
Personally I believe that having knowledge of history helps us to understand people and society, because human beings are living stories and we develop societies with complex cultures, traditions and religions that have not been created at the time, the study of history is essential to place people in time; we need to know where we come from, to know where we are going.
It goes beyond “when” and “where”, it invites us to reflect WHY the events that have marked us occurred and to understand the causes and effects of certain actions to help us learn from the mistakes of our ancestors and ourselves with the purpose of transforming the world into a better place to live.
History helps us understand the world and the society in which we live, it gives us a look at what happened in the past, it gives us a complete picture of why the world is the way it is, not only ours in reality but also in the global context, including other cultures and of course, nature.
When we talk about the importance of history, the first thing that comes to mind is the famous phrase 'Who does not know its history is condemned to repeat it', for a country like Colombia and its inhabitants it is very difficult to evolve and build a better future If you do not know its history in depth taking into account the context of wars so extensive that we have all lived in different magnitudes.
From my career perspective (psychology) we can see how human behavior can be unpredictable at times, but through the study of history it can provide valuable information for future generations. The analysis of our past leaves us very valuable lessons that serve to predict in some way, the consequences of our actions in the future, without having to pay a very high price for it.
In conclusion, knowing the past does not serve to fully predict the future, but it does serve to make better decisions, both for ourselves and for others and to think better for the common good.
