The Meaning Of The Archetype In The Fates Of People

Myths are one of the aspects that contributed to the origin of the humanities. They use symbols such as archetypal that is deeply rooted in cultural perspectives that make people have a strong belief in myths. The mythological symbols have their meaning that explains the universe and dazzling phenomena. The images or symbols formed made sense in the world, thus they were archived so that they could be used as a source of information that would teach the upcoming generations. The formation of these legends helped individuals relate with reality after being trusted; hence, they were transmitted from one generation to the next. The western myths of Theseus versus the Minotaur and Oedipus in light of fate have been transmitted to different generations, since they use archetype that is experienced by individuals up to date.

The fable of Theseus, “the legendary king” was born after Aethra was seduced by Poseidon. Theseus was born with human and divine qualities since he was prepared to be a legendary king. Theseus was supposed to fight for the right of Athens, which was exploited by their rivals. The destiny of Theseus was in a rock that he was supposed to roll so that he could retrieve the divine sword and sandals. The sword and sandals determined his fate since he would face tremendous challenges during his adventure to Athens. The archetypes of Theseus are associated with heroism such as heroes greet deeds that were witnessed during his adventure to Athens. He was recognized early after he was born since he had divine powers that exceeded that one of human beings. The journey he took to Athens is one type of archetype that illustrates that individual life has a purpose and the exact destination. The other classic that has been used is the circle, which shows that human beings contain, and understands the universe. For example, the inhabitants at Isthmus warned Theseus about different dangers on his way to Athens such as bandit from Corinth. This signifies that individuals are aware of their universe and they understand it.

On the contrary, the Minotaur and Oedipus in light of fate indicate that individuals have their own destiny. Therefore, one should follow it; accept it, regardless of where it may lead him or her. It insinuates that the predetermined fate will occur despite one choice and decisions are taken. The archetype associated with Minotaur and Oedipus indicates that the hero’s great deed is a predetermined fate before one was born. Oedipus (king) tried to control his fate by escaping but his predestined fortune resulted in his downfall. This means that Oedipus doom was predetermined before he was born and it was known by Oracle. Therefore, it insinuates that one should “accept fate rather than to control it. ” The hero beyond the west does not even know whether one can survive his or her fate since when it is predetermined, no one can control.

The modern perspective interprets these folklores as fairy tales that are concerned with the satisfaction of security and reassurance among the children. They are supposed to instill value among the children, thus work hard and be morally purity. The physical attractiveness should be respected by morally living according to the cultural perspectives. Moreover, individuals should know about the dark side of their culture; hence, one is aware of dangers that may be experienced when certain values and beliefs are not followed. Additionally, the modern perspective interprets these genres as teachers, thus one should run from what happened in the early decades to avoid being ending up in the same fate. They can be interpreted as common saying that asserts that everything will happen to individuals for a reason and whatever comes around will have to go around.

In conclusion, it is important to encourage myths in humanities, since they teach individuals on how they should relate to each other. They serve as teachers, thus one should learn from others and live morally upright according to the set cultural values. The legendary kings failed to observe the set code of conduct and they end up being unsuitable to the public since there is rebellion against their rule. More importantly, they explain the natural phenomena, origin of humans and individual culture among other aspect that are involved in their origin.
