The Internship Movie Review: A Struggle To Success

The Internship was about two middle aged salesmen, Billy and Nick, who became unemployed due to the growing trend of technology and how technology became their biggest competitor forcing their boss to close his business. As a result of this happening, they find a way to worm their ways into becoming interns at Google. At this internship, they end up having to compete against other interns in order to gain a full-time job at this global company.

At first they struggle, as these two salesmen are considered ‘too old’ to be an intern and they don’t seem to fit in with the rest of the young college interns that have the proper tech savvy skills needed to successfully gain a job at the company. So, when asked to form groups to compete with, these two ‘oldies’ weren’t picked by anyone, yet they weren’t alone. They were a few other ‘outliers’ who also didn’t get picked leaving them no option but to all form into one group.

In the beginning, this team did not become cohesive as the other interns felt Billy and Nick weren’t equipped enough to handle such technical challenges and decided to do the challenges without their help. Even though Billy and Nick were short of these technical skills they played to their strengths, which involved them encouraging team communication and made sure they all worked together, this made the team create a bond unlike any other team in the movie later on. After a rocky start this team was almost unstoppable until simple mistake made by Billy brings all that crashing down and ends up disadvantaging his team. Billy decides to give up and leave the challenge right before the final task, where they could possibly win, because he felt he was bringing his team down and would stop them from winning. This ended up not helping the team but bring them down even further.

The final challenge is one he would thrive in, Sales. Eventually the team persuades him to come back, giving the two salesman a chance to show their true skills by making a local pizza shop work with Google to start a franchise. This win didn’t end up giving them enough points to come in first place, but, because this new franchise brought endless possibilities for the company and its value, they were crowned the winners in the end. Billy and Nick had achieved their dream, they were now full-time employees of Google, the world’s largest search engine.
