The Life Of Soldiers In The Book "The Waramunga’S"
I would say that the Waramunga’s is a book that ends with a happy ending. It depicts the life of soldiers fighting right from the start until the end. We have Jacko and Jamie who usually meet as they fight in Syria. Jacko is full of dark humor and is generally warm and friendly around people, and this turns out really well when they become good friends with Jamie. It’s Jacko who helps out Jamie when he gets wounded and is unable to walk. On the other hand Jamie reciprocates the kind gestures by suggesting to his seniors that he should go to Egypt with Jacko when he is assigned to go there.
Jacko and Jamie who are the main protagonists in the story also have life that is full of entertainment. It is very clear when they keep visiting the Casino Opera for both the music and the dances, the Christmas parties at Moniques’ home the bands that sing for them, the colorful choirs and even when they are in search of the two Germans in Australia they still carry a guitar for entertainment where they sing periodically along the way.
There is a lot of blood spillage and violence along the story right from the start especially when Jamie is caught in a cross fire, he gets wounded and is unable to walk. Several girls in Egypt also get tortured, raped and killed. In Australia we see most people lose their possessions to the gang led by Matt the German, they kidnap and torture the girls they pick. They even go to the extent of killing the men who showed them where to hide.
Spying is also a major thing in the book, there are British spies and German spies. Each group is trying to spy on each other and ironically they all seem to be hanging around the same places. The girls who happen to be commonly used as spies like Yasmina and Fifi are on the payrolls of the side they are providing information for. It is also very interesting since these women are very loyal to who they are spying for. When one of the girls gets incarcerated she refuses to tell anyone what she knows until Jamie and Jacko show up and pick her.
The hospitality of local communities is overwhelming. When Jacko goes to see the Giza pyramids in Egypt he meets a young beautiful lady with green eyes (Monique) who later on becomes his girlfriend. She takes him around the pyramids then takes him to her home for refreshments as well as to meet her parents. Miss Badia who is in charge at the opera is also very kind to her clients and takes them seriously during the New Year’s Eve she refilled drinks at no extra cost. Before the capture of Matt who was terrorizing people Jamie and Jacko receive a lot of encouragement and willingness of people to help them in their pursuit of the thugs. I would give this book a rating of 4 stars out of 4 stars for the good flow of the story. The author does not lose the audience at any given point it is easy to read and understand the different events.
