The Man And The Graveyard

The Man and the Graveyard“I woke up in a hospital bed doctors and nurses were surrounding me” It appears they have found me unconscious on my loved one's grave. All I could think about when I woke up was, was it a dream? It was driving me mad how could such things occur, there is no way that they could have emerged out of their graves but what about HER was it true. . . was it true she was trying to deceive me? “What was once engraved on her tombstone is crossed out and says: “Having gone out in the rain one day, to deceive her lover, she caught cold and died. ” I didn’t want to believe what I saw but did I really see it. Maybe it was all in my head, it could not have possibly happened it’s. . . it’s just peculiar. How could the dead possibly emerge out of their graves, it probably was just an illusion.

“When I came to from my thoughts the nurses were talking amongst themselves they seemed so shocked, their faces turned pale the started bickering of which one should approach me as if I was some monster. When they came to a decision a young nurse started approaching me she was thin with blonde hair and bright blue eyes she kind of reminded me of her. The nurse turned pale her eyes were no longer bright blue, she was trembling uncontrollably. “The nurse stayed a safe distance away from me as if I was some wild animal about to attack her. She started telling me about all the awful things I did to one of their doctors. She also mentioned me talking about the dead and that I looked as if I was possessed. I knew it I wasn’t dreaming after all. I knew who was doing this to me it was her, she did this to me. “I got up from the bed and walked out. Only wearing a sloppy hospital gown revealing my cottage cheese thighs, raw knees, sunburnt toes. No one bothered to stop me they just stood there in confusion. I walked out into the street my bare feet touching the cold surface of the ground. I went to the cemetery approaching her tomb. I stopped myself this is just crazy, it was all in my head. I turned around and headed home, I promised myself I will never come to this cemetery again, I will put this behind me as if she never existed.

“It’s 5 years later and everything is just extraordinary I found myself a new lover she is a beautiful redhead with luxurious scarlet curls, with luminous blue-greenish eyes and fair delicate skin. We have travelled the world together we just returned to Paris yesterday. Everything seemed to be going well until she became ill. She was as white as a sheet her cheeks were hollow and sunken, her eyes were expressionless, glassy and vacant, I realized our time together has come to an end, as days went on and her getting nothing but worse. Her voice was croaky, she inhaled a trembling breath, sweat accumulating on her skin, tears stained her cheeks, as she was taking her last breath she asked me for one favor something I promised myself I wouldn’t do to visit her at her cemetery.

Which was also my ex-wife's cemetery. Just thinking about that place drove me mad. The graveyard looked different than before, gravestones lined the eerie graveyard, some recently replaced, some were crumbled with the weathering of centuries, some were smooth marble with new black writing. Most though were overgrown and unkempt. An upon the hill a new grave had been dug to wait its new occupant. I walked up to the new grave thinking it was for her, instead my eyes fell on a figure, my heart drenched by fear did not throb any longer. Everything fading into abysIt’s eyes on me. I was Numb, I couldn’t feel anything around me. Paralyzed by fear, I felt my breath being taken away. It wasn’t her who the new grave has been dug for. “It was me. ”And on my tomb was written “Mr. Nicholas Montague” “Gone but not forgotten. ”
