The Manufacturing Facilities Of Intel Around The World
The map marks Intel MFG sites, as well as the countries where we have a significant R&D or sales and marketing presence. Almost half of wafers produced in U. S, and the latest green field fab investment was in 2007, located in Dalian, a coast city located in north of China, and per Intel official announcement this year, will continued to ramp the 10nm process node in Oregon and Israel; and expanded memory fab, Fab 68 in China. Memory investments represented approximately 20% of total capital spending for 2018. The manufacturing facilities are primarily used for silicon wafer manufacturing of our platform and memory products. These facilities are built following a CE- “copy exactly” methodology, which means all the new process technologies are transferred from a central development fab to each manufacturing facility and this helps to enable a fast ramp of the operation as well as the best quality control. These wafer fabs operate in a network of manufacturing facilities integrated as one factory to provide the most flexible supply capacity, allowing Intel to better analyze its production costs and adapt to changes in capacity needs. Some of the most important manufacturing and research and development locations are as follow:
California
There are 15,000 employees distributed among three major sites in Santa Clara, San Jose, and Folsom, and there are two research and development sites, in Irvine and San Diego.
Oregon
The Oregon site represents the largest concentration of facilities and talent in the world, there are 20,000 employees distributed in four campuses west of Portland.
Arizona
There are 10,000 employees across two campuses in Arizona, they manufacture microprocessors for data centers and that help connect hundreds of millions of smart devices worldwide.
New Mexico
The operations in this site started in 1980, and it has received an investment of more than $15 billion to develop advanced high-tech manufacturing capacity ever since.
Israel
The presence in this country of a manufacturing site started in Haifa in 1974, currently, there are 10,000 employees involved in the manufacturing and research and development department at this site.
China
Dalian is where Intel manufactures its first memory fab, Fab 68, while Chengdu serves as an assembly and test site. As well as these two cities, Intel has a China Research Center in Beijing, while also giving service through administrative offices in Shenzhen and Shanghai.
Malaysia
Penang was Intel’s first international assembly and test site, which was opened in 1972. There are more than 7,000 employees distributed in Penang and Kulim, which opened afterwards, working on the design and development of software and hardware, as well as manufacturing process of microprocessors and chipsets.
Vietnam
It was opened in 1997, in Ho Chi Minh City, as a sales and marketing office, however it became the largest assembly and test facility, and employs more than 1,000 people.
