They are also known for their style and creativity when it comes to fashion designing. The Caribbean Islands have produced some of the most innovative fashion designers we have recently seen on the fashion scene. Here are some of the top designers from the Caribbean Islands.
Meiling Esau
Meiling is from Trinidad and Tobago and has made an enormous impact on the fashion world. Born and raised on the island, Meiling soon left her country at an early age to attend a fashion school. The school she attended was the Lucie Clayton School of Design in the 1960s. The school was located in England. After her graduation, the style maven returned to her birthplace to open her own fashion boutique. Here, she created several fashion lines. Meiling’s style is clean-lined and demure, which are perfect statement pieces with the occasional color splash. Her designs particularly accentuate the graceful lines of a body. She is known for her lightweight pieces and the longevity of her creations. Meiling has attained international status with designs that are showing stopping. She has worked for several niches like runways and carnivals. When Meiling is not designing breathtaking clothes, she is advocating for fashion talent in the Caribbeans. Meiling Esau has created model boot camps for several upcoming models. She also wrote a book to serve as a guide of sorts to future talent. Her book is titled “Meiling: Fashion Designer”. Lubica Kucerova
Lubica was born in 1983, April 27th in Slovakia. She was exposed to the fashion world early, by her grandmother, who was a seamstress. She graduated from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada and returned to Jamaica to pursue her passion. In Jamaica, she started her clothing line. Her fashion line is self-titled, known as Lubica. After debuting her fashion line in Toronto, Canada in 2005, she has seen kept herself relevant in the fashion industry. Her work is known for its radical color mix, which she began before color blocking became a trend in 2011. She creates pieces that have a sexy appeal, and she is not afraid to mix patterns. Her designs are mostly form-fitting styles that emphasize sexy silhouettes. They are feminine, playful, and bold. She also creates rompers with bold patterns. Apart from her ready-to-wear line, she also has a swimwear line. Her work with the international artiste, Tami Chynn led to a new phase in her career. Extending Auana, a line of hers, Lubica opened a fashion store in Kingston, Jamaica. This was as a result of the line she designed with Tami Chynn. She also won numerous awards from this line, including the Designer of the Year Award in 2010, at the Observer Style Awards. She has also collaborated with several brands for fashion shows.

As a highly sought after fashion designer who lives in London, Gavin Douglas is a fashion phenomenon. He was born to Jamaican parents. He attended school in the United Kingdom, actively pursuing a career in fashion from a young age. He was quick to start his label and establish his reputation as an inspirational designer.
