The Organization Of Mothers Against Gun Violence - Moms Demand Action

Moms Demand Action is an organization of mothers who are trying to raise awareness to gun violence and to gun control laws. In most of their advertisements there are two people, usually children , one holding an ordinary object and one holding an assault weapon. In this specific there are two children seen sitting in what seems a library.

The African American child is seen holding a children’s book , a popular children’s story, Little Red Riding Hood. The caucasian child is seen holding an assault weapon. The caption of the picture reads as follows: “One child is holding something that’s been in America to protect them. Guess which one.We keep 'Little Red Riding Hood' out of schools because of the bottle of wine in her basket.

Why not assault weapons? Gun control laws need to be enforced. There have been 8 school shootings in 2018 in the United States. A. Thesis Statement: America is so strict on certain books in the classroom to keep children safe, but having guns in classrooms is okay? America needs to reconsider their priorities when dealing with what should and shouldn’t be banned in America . The country needs to worry about preventing children from being hurt.

Gun violence needs to be dealt with. Logos is used to persuade people by using logic. Moms Demand Action uses logic through their advertisements. Why is it that we as society can come together and ban one object to keep our children safe, but wont ban or control other unreasonable. The ad makes it seem as if we care more about a book in a children’s library that they can have access to than them having access to assault weapons. Why aren’t these weapon banned if these harmless objects are? In one advertisement an child is seen holding a kinder egg, and ofcourse the other an assault weapon.

Kinder eggs were banned due to the choking hazard of children, but not assault weapons? Does it take another Sandy Hook to get the America’s attention. The organization also uses pathos in their advertisements. Children are seen as innocence and purity, which is disrupted by adding a gun to the picture , which represents violence and chaos. The viewers are also drawn to the darkened image of the two children , and how they look sad.

Why are they sad? In all of their advertisements the child of another race (black, asian, hispanic) are holding the harmless object, however the Caucasian child is always being seen holding the assault weapon. What point are they trying to get across? Is it the fact that most school shootings are done by caucasian adolescents? Who ultimately get away with it each time by pleading mental illness issues.
