The Power Of Interest Groups in Political Parties

Earlier I had no actual understanding of government and my beliefs were shaped around things I learned throughout my years as a student. I made it a goal in the beginning of this semester to at least learn something that would allow me to grow as an informed citizen of Texas. I started by setting the goals of learning what is required to run for congress and how a bill becomes a law. I successfully managed to learn both of these things. Learning about political parties and what each stands for has allowed me to find which party I align with and has made me aware of the ways I can bring change to public policy.

A lot of the people I know do not vote or do not understand politics enough to believe that their involvement will help. However, I believe that since I now know what each political party, each interest group withing political sphere stands for, I can share that with others and allow them to have a basic knowledge of a fundamental aspect in voting. Being informed about the ideals and issues that each party will focus on makes voters more apprehensive about choosing the best candidate. Without knowing what a political party stands for, they risk choosing a candidate that goes against their interests. So with my knowledge, I can choose to follow a crowd that I know will align with my interests and thus allows me to participate in politics as an informed citizen. Everything in life is affected by politics, so starting off with this fundamental knowledge will at least allow me to make educated votes in the future.

Another aspect of government that aligns with the understanding on political parties are the power of interest groups. Interest groups have the ability to change policy and raise awareness of certain issues. What gathered my attention the most was that interest groups gather their strength by citizens who can become involved and strike change. Interest groups allow citizens to have a voice and have the ability to even contribute to political campaigns themselves. I believe that citizens have the power to shape the society they live in and interest groups are the perfect way to start getting involved in politics. After learning about interest groups and realizing their accessibility to citizens, I can now join a group that aligns with my own interests. I am especially excited that there a different types of interest groups and in Texas alone there’s many to choose from. Knowing this, I can easily start expressing my own concerns through these groups and start attending local events. From those events, I can start inviting people who also align with the goals of the group and from there it will only make the group stronger. I will be able to use the knowledge I know about political parties to find an interest group that aligns to similar views and thus achieve a common goal.

Understanding the concept of politics - it is definitely something that affects my everyday life and I am glad I can realize my power as a citizen. I have a better grasp about how the Texas government developed and how it currently functions. Moreover, as a part of interest group within political parties noe I clearly understand the power that we have.
