The Reasoning To The Existence Of God
The universe is following the rules of nature and is operating like clockwork. Since everything operates according to set rules of nature which have been in place since creation, it is logical to say that the universe following all the laws of physics signifies that there is someone who has orchestrated this incomprehensibly complex design. This can be explained by the analogy of a watch; the functional interweaving parts of a watch immediately imply a watchmaker or a creator, similarly, the functionality of complex living organism demand a creator. Everything in our realm behaves within the confines of natural laws, to absolute certainty; furthermore everything has a tendency to one thing and not the other. For example, our planet has the tendency to orbit the Sun since the dawn of time however never would the planet Earth randomly move off its orbit and start orbiting another star. It is the consistent tendency of things — the fact that atoms and rocks and bodies and planets and galaxies and the entire universe have tendencies to do one thing and not another — that leads via reason to the existence of God.
“There are no atheists in a sinking ship”
The universe, in essence, is an intelligent design and the architect of such a design would no doubt have knowledge and intelligence far beyond the comprehension of beings (humans) part of said design. The universe has untold mechanics that are under the control of one Designer. It is crucial to remember that the oneness of God is just as important as belief in a God. Several renowned historians have discovered that in the times before Islam, such as the times of the Aztecs or Mayans, monotheism (worship of one God) was prevalent.
The significance of monotheism being practiced in such old times is that even then, the people realized that there can only be one ‘Designer’ or Creator. Consider a king of a land; if there is one king, everything in his kingdom would run smoothly without any trouble, much similar to how our universe operates – in a predefined manner and without any external or internal issues. However, taking the king’s example, if in the same land there was more than 1 king, there would be conflicts and disagreements concerning the ruling of the land. Similarly if there was more than 1 Creator, there would be arguments and conflicts among the many gods on how to run the entire universe. Allah Himself speaks of the problems of more than one Lord in the following verse “And Why, were there gods in earth and heaven other than God, they (heaven and earth) would surely go to ruin." (21:22) And also “God has not taken to Himself any son, nor is there any god with Him: For then each god would have taken of that which he created and some of them would have risen up over others.”
One of the main scientific proofs for the existence of God is related to the origin of the universe. The entire universe is constantly expanding. If reversed to its origin, it goes to show that the universe was once a single point (ball of mass that exploded and is constantly evolving). Authenticity of God’s existence is that there is no answer to the question of how or why the aforementioned ball of mass came to being and who put it there, consequently causing it to explode and expand. From a logical point of view, we are left with few choices to explain the causes of The Big Bang; either the ball of mass formed on its own – essentially creating itself - independent to any and all other factors of nature or it came to existence out of nothingness and lastly some higher being (God) is responsible for the causes of The Big Bang. With regards to the first option, nothing can exist and not exist at the same time, thereby proving the first option to be incorrect since the ball of mass could not have not existed and then existed, hence this is a paradoxical statement. As for the second option, the ball of mass coming into existence out of nothing or out of thin air, is also incorrect because matter cannot be created nor destroyed - according to the law of conservation of mass – consequently we are left with the final option that there must be someone who placed the ball of mass there and gave it the attributes to expand and sustain life. We can also deduce that this Someone is not bound by the laws of physics because they have created matter out of thin air therefore being an exception to the rules of physics. Any being that is not bound by the laws of nature is certainly an authority independent of human limitations.
There is biological reasoning to the existence of God as well. The Quran says that all life has originated from water. There is scientific evidence that the cytoplasm of cells is 70% water. Furthermore, the average human body consists of 50-60% water. This information was obtained more than 1400 years ago, when the Quran was revealed and at a time when there was no concept of cells and cytoplasm or the availability of the tools to study such micro-beings. Since Quran is the word of Allah, it is justified to say that if such information was given to us before humans themselves could discover such facts, surely it must be the Creator of these organisms Who would clearly know the molecular structure of His beings. Another proof for the existence of God is the sky. The sky protects the earth from the freezing temperature of space by acting as a blanket. It also aids in protecting us from the lethal rays of the sun. The sun’s radiation would have killed us off long ago if the sky did not exist. The Fitrah argument is that since birth, all humans are pure and predisposed to perform righteous tasks. They have engrained in them the belief in one God. There is an internal desire to go to our Lord in times of need or hardships and ask or at least try to ask for what the person wishes. Humans have a feeling to obtain hope from someone in a higher authority, showing that we seek spiritual satisfaction. We are all inclined to differentiate between ethical and unethical activities and as beings that are pure from the inside, an uneducated person would feel the same disgust a scholar would if a person killed another person without any justified reason or any other morally wrong deed such as robbery, rape. The fact that every child is born in this pure state of fitrah is also supported by the following hadith concerning the polytheists: ‘It is narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) said that he saw in a vision an old man at the front of a large tree and around him were children and in the vision he was told that the old man was Ibrahim and that the children who were around him were the children who, before attaining the age of discretion, had died. At this, some Muslims had asked hum: "And the children of the polytheists too, Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, replied: "The children of the polytheists as well."
Furthermore, it is said that since Tauheed (belief in one God) is the base nature of humans, so the purpose of the prophets can also be viewed in such a perspective that they were sent to remind us of our original nature – that with which God created us. Although everyone has the same purity in their hearts, however a child born and raised in a Jewish family will be a product of the social environment he/she is placed in. Despite being taught to follow different beliefs, until a person consciously believes in the religion they are practicing, they will be forgiven.
In my opinion, I believe that the strongest argument, to support the existence of God, is the scientific reasoning. As faith alone cannot be a reason enough to believe in God and rational people require reasoning to believe in an entity that controls all the creatures in and outside the earth. Scientific reasoning provides various theories and proofs that altogether strengthens the concept of the existence of God. Different scientists from all over the world have devoted their lives in search of God. Due to the different studies and numerous experiments, the existence of God can be proved.
