The Reasons Why Makeup For Men Is Okay
Earlier makeup was targeted to women and it was gender less. Many social media influencers are breaking the gender stereotypes and awakening the sense of confidence in the youth and connect the men and women who share their passion. Makeup is just paint and is genderless. Anyone who feels like wearing makeup shouldn’t be ashamed of the same. Makeup is an accessory in its own form. “When I saw what a product actually did for my skin, I thought there should be a brand that was dedicated to that specific target demographic.” It is necessary to educate men on what makeup products are used for and how to use the products. Makeup lets you put your best food forward, decrease your insecurities and makes you feel confident. Men walk around the streets with pigmentation and dark spots and redness. Imagine those men walking the street without those imperfections. There is immediately a shift of confidence and sense of self-esteem growing down the street. Makeup can do wonders to you if you allow it. Makeup companies are trying to sell to a man for years now. But the biggest challenge is to make a man believe that makeup doesn’t make a man feminine. Men dive into their mother’s makeup bags or vanity for quick hydration, moisturiser, tinted moisturiser, BB cream, face wash, pore strips and so on. As there is a growing pressure for men’s physique and abs, there is a pressure for men to have a flawless skin. Most of the male population is ashamed of going to the makeup counter having a fear of being teased or laughed at. Mostly men just ask their girl-friends for wax strips, foundations or concealers. Most men have acne and breakouts. The pressure of having a flawless skin makes them conscious. Most of the men use makeup to enhance their skin, to have a chiseled jawline, to contour the cheekbones.
Makeup is about creating the best version of ourselves. Many men are bullied for the imperfections they have, pigmentations, acne and breakouts, dark spots, dark circles. Concealing the imperfections can grow the self-esteem of a man. A 21-year old Texas man was denied entry in a club as he was wearing makeup and heels and the club has rules that says men need to dress like men. What does “dress like a man” mean? People made their own conclusions of how men should dress and woman should dress like. There is no right or wrong in fashion. It is about our own choices. What skin are we comfortable in? There shouldn’t be any third party involvement in our choices. Wearing makeup is not about being gay or straight. It is a choice of expressing ourselves. Men have skin needs. Self-tanning is in high demand mainly amongst the pale skin population. Most of them are men. Makeup makes us look how we want, on our own terms, for ourselves. Men wearing makeup are judged of being gay or abnormal or feminine. The problem is the toxic masculinity. Beauty knows no gender. Makeup and skincare is widely accepted and practiced to look and feel better.
Makeup helps in breaking the gender norms and helps create confidence and expression. Average man uses makeup to enhance their existing strong points and creating a camouflage to cover up the imperfections. Most men have agreed to the fact that makeup makes them feel sexy and powerful and masculine. Investing in yourself and your skin for an illusion of perfection doesn’t make you stupid. As the concept of masculinity became for rigid, the use of makeup amongst men started to decline. Many luxury brands like Chanel, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs started launching men’s cosmetic lines. Lip balms, bronzes, highlighters, tinted moisturisers, shave balms feels lesser of a big deal. Modern men have started investing in their image. Money can buy a bit of a confidence. Men makeup is a serious business now. Gender no longer needs to be a part of the equation. Straight men wear makeup. It is totally okay to wear makeup and be straight. It is already becoming quite common and there’s nothing to be ashamed of. It is high time to empower people and stand against the archaic gender ideas and insecurities.
