The Review of the Play 'Antigone Tragic Hero'
This is Antigone Tragic Hero essay where I will try to share my arguments why she is a tragic hero. In the book Antigone there is Polyneices and Eteocles, two brothers leading opposite sides in Thebes' civil war, have both been killed in battle. They have a new ruler of thebes whose name is Creon. Creon says that Eteocles will be honored and Polyneices disgraced. The rebel brother's body will not be buried, and will lay unburied to become the food to animals.
Antigone and Ismene are sisters to the brothers and Antigone believes that her brother Polyneices should be buried even though Creon has said not to bury the body. This is one reason why I think Antigone is a tragic hero. She is going to try to bury her brother's body even though Creon made it illegal for anyone to do so and if she gets caught she will be punished. Antigone is brave and is not scared to do anything that she thinks is right even if it means going against the ruler of Thebes Creon. Antigone is very stubborn and she is going to want things down her way, which in this case I think is the right choice.
You can tell Antigone doesn't care about the law or the punishment if she buries her brother because she said “And if I have to die for this pure crime, I am content, for I shall rest beside him; His love will answer mine” as you can tell she is willing to risk her life for what's right. Even though we think antigone is the best and is great for this she has some flaws. Like I said earlier she is very stubborn and is going to do everything and anything to bury her brother. This is also another reason I think Antigone is the tragic hero because she has the good intent to bury her brother but knows the punishment if she does. Antigone knows this so does her sister. Antigone goes and try to bury her brother but she gets caught and is brought to creon for a punishment.
The tragic hero Antigone is about to get put in a cave until her death. Antigone is going to get arrested but she does not fear being arrested for what she has done. Her sister Ismene tried to take the blame for her because she feels bad that she didn't even try to help her bury their brother and antigone will be taken to the cave. So there are several reasons why Antigone is a tragic hero.
