The Review On Movie About Bowling For Columbine

Bowling for Columbine, written by Michael Moore is a documentary about how fire arms are a terrible influence and pollute the mind, rather than supplying safety, which is the real reason behind the possession of a fire arm being legalised. Michael Moore wrote and produced the film to emphasise his point on why weapons should not be sold or purchased easily through out America which has had the most homicide during the past years than any other country. Moore mainly focused on the story of a shocking school shooting in Columbine High School. This ordinary high school was put through an attack by two absent minded teenagers who destructively killed a teacher and 12 students.

Moore tries interviewing people who’s lives were affected due to guns but many were stunned into silence but those who spoke out were the family that found it appalling for someone to carry a fire arm at arms length at a young age. These stories had helped Moore to make a convincing argument more effective to those who think there was no harm in possessing a fire arm and it would rethink there conclusion due to the fact of many being harmed if not killed by ages varying in 6-76. Moore has managed to interview 2 student who were at the shooting and carried out drastic procedures, such as, purchasing all ammunition at K-mart so they can stop selling them and interviewed them on how dangerous guns are. Moore’s documentary style and techniques such as sequencing, visual irony and editing are strategically used to persuade and influence the viewer. A climate of fear is generated by politicians, corporations and the media chaos adds fuel to the violence in America.

Throughout comparison and visuals the audience was exposed to the irony after the shooting the media decided to blame it on Marylyn Manson for his aggressive music but also failed to recognise the president ordering a massive arsenal of bombs to be deployed in Syria. Re watching the film today it becomes clear that the problem isn’t gun culture but the way America failed to do anything about it. This is further emphasised by the inclusion of video footage from Moore's young, personal background with the rifle sub culture and how he was interested at a young age. This conveys he’s not in any position to judge gun owners and allows the documentary to maintain some level of objectivity. This is where Moore is subject to only one point and not the other of carrying fire arms. Moore uses satire and comedy to put over his viewpoints without stating them outright. He comments not only on the use of fire arms but the American state of mind in general. This is a successful attempt at influencing the audiences and the use of inserts and entertainment that add to the overall message. This is an interesting film in its way and it isn’t afraid to go back to the first principles and how Moore is challenging the gun culture.
