Three Personal Army Values as Examples of Leadership

Leadership is very important in this world especially in this great country of ours. There are two types of leaders. There are leaders like Adolf Hitler and there are leaders like Mahatma Ghandi. But in army values essay we will analyse how these values reveal the concept of a leadership.

The Army Values are what best represent the soldiers in our time honored corp. LDRSHIP, Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. Three of these values I misrepresented the first one is integrity in my definition of integrity is someone who knows what to do when making the right choice and own up to their mistakes and wrong doings no matter how severe the consequences may be. Somebody who lacks integrity is someone doesn’t take credit for their failures or responsibilities as well knows right from wrong and still does the wrong even though that person it aware. I am one of those people who recently lacked integrity by not owning up for my decision and plagiarizing my most recent essay on disobeying and disrespecting a direct order from a superior in SPC Corbalan and then tried to argue back her even though I knew it was the wrong thing I still chose to do the wrong thing and compromise my integrity. In addition it also makes my section lose their credibility as well as affect them negatively. I was aware that it was not in my counseling, but I still decided to try and take the easier route by copying and paste someone else’s work and take credit for something that wasn’t mine.

The second Army Value I broke was honor a very important one. It’s actually the one that means the most to me. I broke this army value by losing one of my good morals and that moral was doing the right thing something I didn’t do. I have multiple ways of explaining honor. You can’t have any of the Army Values without honor. Someone with honor is somebody with good morals. It’s also someone who seems the good in someone no matter what their past is. It’s someone who fights for what they believe in to protect the ones the love no matter what the cost even if that means their own life. You can also say that you can’t have honor without integrity. Honor is someone who would risk their own life or even give their own life to save or protect the ones you love. As a soldier it’s what you sign up for no matter what your MOS is your prepared to fight the fight and battle till it’s won. An example is from Forrest Gump when he went back into the hellfire of battle to save all of his battle buddies lives while engaged in combat in Vietnam the received the highest military achievement the Medal of Honor. Which brings me to my next example the Medal of Honor. The Medal of Honor is the nation's highest medal for valor in combat that can be awarded to members of the armed forces. Honor is what a leader expects form their junior enlisted. Although it this isn’t related to the Army honor among thieves is another example. Thieves will not steal from each other. In other words, this proverb says that criminals observe a moral code of honor in that they do not do anything illegal to their partners in crime.

The final Army Value I compromised was my duty as a soldier and that was to uphold to the standards that those senior to me expected me to uphold. As stated is Toby Keith’s song American Soldier he sings “I will always do my duty no matter what the price”. I can also compare my previous counseling to failing my second general order “I will obey my special orders and perform all my duties in a military manner”. The reason why I failed my duty in a military manner is because what did was very unprofessional and as a soldier I am supposed to be an expert and a professional as stated in my soldier’s creed. Instead of doing the right thing I tried to find a loop hole which would result in me failing the task at hand. My unprofessionalism shows how me and others that I am not ready to be a leader or even move towards the conversation or argument that I xam even ready for that responsibility. I’ve learned through this failure that I wouldn’t be in this situation if I would have done my last essay to the standard and carried myself properly as soldier I would not have been in this situation as of time now.

A leader is someone that anyone or almost everyone can follow. In my opinion I believe a leader is someone can trust with their life given any circumstance. Someone that isn’t afraid to step out of their comfort some and take charge while everyone just stares. A leader is someone who leads by example. In the Army we have leaders most leaders we look up to are NCOs they are the backbone of the United States Army. They are professionals who represent the Army Values inside and outside of work. NCOs are who we look up to for guidance and professional development as a soldier. NCOs are not only to uphold the standard but they also exceed the standard a majority of the time. NCOs jobs are to train and take care of soldiers. SSG Wright has always been an NCO I can look up to as well as SGT Hawkins because they have always taken care of me and that’s what great leaders do. SPC Corbalan has been appointed in a leadership position by the Non-Commissioned Officers above me. No matter what she would be working on throughout the duty day she would stop and take her time to teach me. But instead of listening to her like I should I would not take her seriously. My actions and attitude towards her reflected very negatively and were unacceptable. My actions towards were not only disrespectful to her but also all the Non-commissioned Officers as well as the officers appointed above me in my section. And after this learning experience I am now grateful for SPC Corbalan’s actions that helped me improve as an S-1 Clerk.
