The Clash of Traditional and Modern Values in Society

Society is continuously developing, whether it’s for better or worse. With each different finding, progression, and social perspective that arises, change is critical in order for society to develop simultaneously with the evolution we make as persons of the society. A quick look back at history demonstrates the extent of advancement and alterations society has endured to adapt to the forthcoming problems of their individual time stages. One of the major alterations in society is the conversion from a traditional society to modernity, then postmodernity. In traditional vs modern society essay the topic will be considered in relation to these two concepts.

Society is accountable for forming a vision of the epitome of the perfect person, family, setting, and way of life. Our modern day society has obtained its individual classification of beauty, contentment, and accomplishment. It appears that society has unintentionally mixed these three societies together, and since these descriptions are not universal, different societies may allocate different understandings to each perception.

Traditional Society

Some features that people subordinate with the term ‘traditional society’ comprise of old-fashioned, confining, and modest, amongst countless others. Rarely mentioned as a hierarchal society, the traditional society highlights its principal emphasis upon the family. The family offers safety to its members and in return demands a stern set of responsibilities from their members. The necessities of the family dominate the desires of the individual, and commitments to one’s family are continuous. The grounds of traditional society lie upon the notions of morality, status, and hierarchy, all of which assimilate to create a set of cultural morals that

further amplify the importance of unity towards one’s family. The happiness of a family in traditional society is dependent upon the level of decency and admiration it commands.

In traditional society, there is a discrete hierarchy in place between the family and in society, with one being the peak level. Most people in traditional societies were spiritual, and this was replicated in the bulk of their values, beliefs, and instructions. The hierarchy controls which members of the family complete particular tasks, states more in decision making, and who submits to who.

Modern Society

Where traditional society places crucial importance upon socialism, modern society, otherwise identified as mass society, considers individual liberty as vital to one’s living. Any contrasting forces that try to limit this freedom, such as the government, belief, seniors and parents are met with resentment. Modernity was exclusive where they not only involved change, but saw it as an importance to the success of a society. This direction of society was formed not by its views or moralities like traditional society, but by actions and findings which presented a newfound viewpoint. One of the instances of this is throughout the 19th century, when there was a change in legislations and monetary status in the Western world.

Just upon analyzing a summary of each type of society, one can simply assume that traditional and modern society differentiate each other in numerous ways. One of the principal dissimilarities is globalization and the change in labor. Under the impact of globalization, honesty, material derived from the media, and communication with other philosophies, traditional and modern standards are altering.

Employment in traditional societies fluctuated significantly from what we deem as a profession. Most of employment for people of traditional society founded over-all labor. Modern society has compensated professions which comprise of general labor, while traditional society had countless people who were undertaking similar responsibilities minus trading their skills for cash.

The second difference is gender dynamics. In a traditional society, citizens are divided based on a number of aspects, one of them being gender. Your gender determines your future, how you’re treated, and general value in society. Traditional society made it extremely difficult for self-growth in employment, even more so for women. Whereas, a modern society will have its people in divisions of labor where they are allocated and rewarded accordingly.

Women were likely to be submissive wives to their husbands, full time mothers to their children, and accomplish domestic errands such as nurturing to goats and fetching water, with no prospect for job progression. There was an unmistakable separation of labor in traditional society, where responsibilities generally completed by one sex were seldom completed by the opposite sex. Families who were involved in the reverse of these positions were critiqued.

Conclusion

There are numerous variances between these societies. Society met various progressions after these altered conversions through the alteration in labor, gender politics and many more. Through my familiarity existing in a modern society and linking it to mutual traditions and the culture of traditional society, I favor modernity as we are capable to live our everyday lives the way we prefer due to the sovereignty and privileges we have achieved through residing in a modern society.
