Truth About Slavery in 'Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass'

In the book titled Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, I agree with Frederick Douglass that slavery is damaging to the slave owners. In the Narrative, Douglass says that slave owners have too much power and slaves have too little power. Douglass also says that slaves will rebel against things that they find unfair in any type of situations. The aim for “Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass” essay is to analyse author's thoughts on slavery.

There are many reasons why I agree with Douglass on Slave owners. For example, the Narrative explains the systems and techniques by which whites gain and keep control over blacks from their introduction to the world ahead. Slave owners keep slaves insensible of fundamental certainties about themselves, for example, their introduction to the world date or their paternity. As slave kids become older, slave owners keep them from figuring out how to read and write, as proficiency would give them a feeling of self‑sufficiency and capacity. Slaveholders comprehend that proficiency would lead slaves to understand the privilege of whites to keep slaves.

In the 1800s the anti‑slavery, movement was gaining momentum, it was mostly happening in the far Northeast. Douglass attended an abolitionist meeting in Nantucket, Massachusetts in 1841, where he met Garrison and was encouraged to tell the crowd about his slavery experiences. When Douglass first arrived in Massachusetts, he began reading the Liberator, which was a newspaper edited by William Lloyd Garrison. During the 1860s and beyond, Douglass was campaigning for the black people's right to vote and receive equal treatment in public places. In the 1870s and 1880s, Douglass served in government positions under several governments.

In the modern world, slave owners are different compared to the slave owners in the historical era. For example, slavery is illegal in every country in the modern world, but it still exists to this day. Modern slavery is different from historical slavery because it is very cheap compared to historical slavery, and it can make higher economic returns. Finally, slavery is illegal everywhere, and it requires corruption and crime to carry on. It also can only continue to exist if governments allowed it to continue. As of today, slavery is still an ongoing problem. For example, there is a total of 40.3 million people in modern slavery around the world, there are 10 million children, 24.9 million people in forced labor, 15.4 million people in forced marriage, and 4.8 million people in forced sexual exploitation.

I believe slave owners are more damaged by slavery as the slaves themselves because the slave owners enjoy the slaves causing damage on the moral health. I also believe that slave owners aren’t responsible for their powers. In the Narrative, Douglass describes typical slaveholder behavior patterns to describe the damaging effects of slavery. He explores how many slave-owners were tempted to commit adultery and rape and fathered children with their slaves.
