Understanding A Sense Of Self And Its Importance
A sense of self is being aware of your true identity. It is what defines us and makes us unique in our ways. Nowadays, teens and young adults are having difficulties to share their traumatic past, gender identity, religion, etc. They most likely suffer from depression, social phobia, or any mental disorder. This type of individuals isolates themselves because of the fear of rejection from others. We need to learn to accept whoever we are and stop striving acceptance from our friends, families, or colleagues.
Striving for acceptance can be bad; this is when our doubts and fears will make our lives difficult. We cannot force our beliefs to someone to acknowledge us. Each of us sees life from a different perspective. Our culture, religions, and traditions define our identity. It affects our ethics, morals, humour, and responsibilities. We must understand developing a true sense of self will encourage us to become a better version of ourselves.
To overcome doubts and fears, we must understand that we are not alone. Surely, we have someone willing to help us; they will positively influence us to be successful in life. They give us good advice, discover new things about yourself, motivates us to reach our goals, and live a healthy life. Having friends means helping each other; they are not afraid to give you a reality check because they know us so well that they see things beyond us. They share their thoughts and ideas with us that will benefit us.
Additionally, we should treat people with respect and kindness. When you are polite to someone, they will treat you nicely as well. We must learn to control our temper to avoid conflicts and hatred towards each other. When we feel our anger is slowly rising, we should take a timeout and go out for a walk if necessary. Never hold grudges on someone and openly tell how you feel about what annoys you. For instance, the wife tells her husband that she is tired of him leaving all the dishes after eating. It alerted her man to do the dishes in the future to avoid arguments.
As a human, we are a social being that can't live without companions or comrades. We live in a cooperative and dependent community. For instance, we look for someone to depend on to meet our needs. Everything we buy such as foods, cars, gadgets, clothes, and many other products are all produced by individuals whom we rely on. We made society this way; each of us performs different characters for the benefit of our society to function and live more effectively. In short, we turn to others to make ourselves believe that we aren’t alone.
