Before I begin this essay, I just wanted to make a short introduction and cite our goals and objectives regarding our subject. This subject, understanding the self, gives us the opportunity to know more about ourselves and to know who we really are. Through P-B-E model, it will help us to explore various aspects about ourselves that will lead us to our self-discovery as well as self-awareness. In order to reach our success, it is important that we understand clearly who we are. It is a guide throughout our student life because it will help us how to handle ourselves during our struggles and hard times as we go on our journey. It will also be a guide for us to embody the core values of feu which is the Fortitude, Excellence and Uprightness. This course will help us to understand the meaning and importance of life on our everyday lives. Each reading that was given through our canvas will help us on how to figure out these thing.

Yesterday, September 24, 2018 (Monday), our professor had given us a task to discuss in our perspective groups the assignment that was given last Monday, September 17, 2018. It is a three-question that is needed to be answered and justified. Those questions are related to Albert Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory: An Agentic Perspective. We are required to read that article in order for us to think critically and so we could answer the given questions precisely. Our group discussion went smooth as everyone cooperates and shares their thoughts freely. The leader wrote in a piece of paper as the groupmates explains their answers per number.

The first question that was given was (1) What is the difference between operant conditioning and Social Cognitive Theory? As a group, we defined the operant conditioning as the kind of person’s learning in which he/she’s learning is totally based on the reward or punishment that has to be given to her. Another term for this is “instrumental learning”. Moreover, certain behavior that has a good consequence is most likely to be repeated by a doer so meaning, it obviously rises up. While in contrast, a behavior that has a bad consequence is less likely to be repeated so again, it lessen down.

The result of the action of a person is always based on the consequences that were given to her. These consequences are called reinforcement or punishment. I would like to give you an example for operant conditioning. There is a student named Jane, who is working diligently on her school work. As a consequence, her professor gave her an appreciation for her hard work as a positive feedback. In return, Jane continues to work hard meaning, her behavior increases because of the positive reinforcement. While in the other hand, there is a student who has fallen asleep during class. As a consequence, the professor got mad and shouted at him to wake up. The misbehavior of sleeping will stop and the student will start to work at class again. It means that the behavior decreases because of the positive punishment.
