We Should Say “Thanks” To Migrants
You’re lying in a hospital bed. Suffering. Fearing the world. Alone. Someone takes your hand, they listen to you, hear what you have to say. The NHS wouldn’t be able to survive without the 20% of migrants working. You want a new pair of Adidas shoes, a new Superdry jacket; thank the 47% of migrants making them. We complain how there is no room with the migrants barging in; Feel sorry for the 8. 3% of migrants being forced to leave their home. Imagine that was you…
From research from the University College London (UCL) said that in the year 2000 migrations contributed with more than 20 billion pounds for the economy. That leads to the workforce; around 70% of Europe’s workforce has been made up of migrations and 47% in the UK. The reason migrants benefit from arriving into new places is the cheap labour pay. Several men and women walk out of their jobs due to low pay. Huge companies such as Adidas and Superdry employ these migrants and pay them hardly any money but they put up with it as they have moved due to some reason and need jobs. Although many agree with migration there is still a fraction that disagrees with problems like the taxes as more and more migrants arriving into a new country the taxes go up due to pension pay, a further problem would be that the public is concerned that bringing in an increased number of migrations will clearly cause job losses. When a large group of migrant’s enter a country, the majority of them head out and search for jobs to help them survive and look for basic food and shelter.
According to the National Geographic Earth Pulse (NGEP) there around 42 million people worldwide who have been forced to leave their homes from the faults of political issues. That’s because war and state polices discriminate against the particular categories of its citizens and the political opponents of those in power causing war to break out and forcing people to move. Although war and armed conflicts have caused diverse cases they are still influenced by any political issue. So you could be surprised that between 1975 and 2000 the share of migrants in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) said that the population has increased from 4. 5% to 8. 3%. As the BBC reports that more than 300, 000 migrants have put their life in risk attempting to cross the Mediterranean to Europe throughout last year. The OECD is said to be requesting new laws as all of these migrants coming in. For example some of these new laws would state that the country taking in migrants need international aid as when migrants enter a new country they would have a small amount of money, no food and they would need good services. For this to take place we need the World Bank or the IMF (International Monetary Fund) to help out in this situation.
The English National Health Service shows that in 2015, out of the 1. 22 million NHS staff around 235, 000 of them who were not born here in the UK. The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) has warned that the NHS would possibly "collapse" if we didn’t have the help of the European workers. Thousands of immigrants were denied permission to work for the NHS in England in 2015 although the hospitals were facing a major shortage in their staff. In 2016 more and more people were migrating with a definite job (over a million to be exact) than in 2015 with an increase of 99000 citizens migrating to either be with family, a pleasant life style or for a more suitable job. In my opinion migration can be extremely useful for today’s society but in the social side of things it can be awful. As the use of drugs and alcohol are being consumed as well as school attendance dropping at a major rate from children who have been left behind from migrants. Although migration has it flaws it also has some great points on why it is an acceptable movement for example social migration is never forced. The citizens that move are usually voluntary or a planned movement. Are migrants taking our job? Several hundred citizens claim that migrants come in and take our jobs. Although this is almost true, they are still doing the same job but for lower pay. The citizens of other EU countries make up for 6. 8% of the UK workforce, compared to 4. 8% from three years ago and 2. 6% from a decade ago. This shows that in today’s world numerous people think that migrants are ‘stealing’ our jobs. There have been many theories about migrants and there was one that stands out; that migrants are competing with the local population for jobs causing wages to dive down and building up unemployment for countless UK citizens. The EU said that in around every 100 migrants who find new jobs at least 23 UK-born citizens are displaced from their work.
Finally to conclude my research, I believe that none of us would be where we are today if it weren’t for migrants as they have helped us a lot through the past couple of years.
