What Was My College Experience
My name is Victoria Rodriguez; I show leadership in my life by attending college because I am the first generation in my family to attend school. In this college experience essay I will share personal story of attending college.
I see myself as a leader because I believe in hard work and I am not lazy to achieve my goals. When I have my mind set to something, I achieve it and if I fail, I try again. I am not the type of person to give up so easily when things get rough especially when I am determined on my goal. Setting goals and achieving them feels great and makes me happy when I have completed them. Growing up I saw my mother struggle financially raising while four children all by herself. Seeing my mother struggle made me motivated to attend college after high school where I can achieve a promising career for my future.
Soon after I graduated high school, I came to San Antonio because there are a lot of people from my hometown who still there with their parents and aren’t going to school because they would rather work for the rest of their life’s. I have seen how hard it is to have work and barely get through financially which is not something I want for myself. I wanted to get the college experience, meet new people and expand my knowledge in my career field. I left because I wanted to feel like I am doing something with my life and that I am going somewhere with my future. I want a better future and a promising career and having a degree promises me that. I am also a first generation in my family to go to college, so it was a challenge to face.
Coming to school in San Antonio would have to be a big challenge I had to face because from then on, I would be all on my own. I was scared of the idea of being alone for the first time ever. At first being in San Antonio all alone I was a little scared to be alone and I would miss my family and home. I feel as if living in San Antonio all by myself being a difficult challenge I had to face but I have overcome this already. Living on my own has taught me how to be independent, responsible, and how to manage my time with school and work. Facing the hardest challenge yet has motivated me to be ready to face any other challenges that come my way. I believe this has shaped me as the person I am today which is a hard worker, goal getter, and intelligent women.
My professional goals in life are to find a good job that makes me happy, get a good education, find a job that makes enough money for me to support my family, and help people. Goals are very important for me to receive a good education. Most job fields require a decent education. My next goal is to become an architect which attending this university will help me achieve this. Overall, I see myself as a leader at UT Austin by studying hard, get promising grades, working hard to accomplish my goal.
