Why I Want to Study Computer Science
'Work hard and you will see amazing results!' My parents encouraged me from an early age to learn to do things my way. My fascination with technology started as a child when my parents bought me my first computer which interested me to research computer software and gain greater knowledge so that I can help others. “Why I want to study computer science?” essay consists of my “why's” and personal strength that can help me during the path of studying computer science. I find it intriguing how fast society has changed with the use of technology and continues to do so due to the technological advancements that are occurring at an unexpected rate. Elon Musk's autonomous cars are an example of this as the use of computer science allowed for what was thought was to be the impossible. The knowledge and skills that I will attain from the course will aid me in becoming an important computer scientist who helped advance technology further for society.
One of the many reasons why I want to study computer science is because the technological possibilities are endless. Advancing technology opens new pathways to solving international crises such as famine, disease, and war. To reach this goal, in my spare time I took part in an online computer course where I learnt programming codes like Java and Python which allows me to explore opportunities that computer science has brought to society. I thoroughly enjoyed this course with the help of my cousin who further sparked my interest in the art of computer science and coding. My love for computers and technology increased more and when I got my computer; I researched the systems and software and learnt about computers which expanded my pre-existing fascination with computer science.
I currently study physics and mathematics which will be essential to the course as maths is an essential component of computer science that makes up computing and programming concepts. Without it, you would find it challenging to make sense of abstract language, algorithms, data structures or differential equations. All of which are necessary to fully appreciate how computers work.
Furthermore, I am constantly using technology and I own many different computer interfaces from desktop computers, tablets, games consoles which I enjoy. Moreover, I enjoyed dismantling my phone and games console to better understand how they worked as well as fixing them in the process. My passion for computers started as soon as I could get my hands on a computer and has helped me explore the world of computers and how they work, so I know I am suitable for this course. Moreover, this subject interests me as I enjoy the mathematics and science involved around the course as it involves coding, designing, developing new components or products, maintaining, operating components, modelling, and testing. Also, this involves being given a question that involves researching then formulating a hypothesis, then testing that hypothesis by experimenting. These tasks would require patience which is one of many skills that I have developed through trial and error of rebuilding my consoles.
One of the many reasons that I'm suitable for this course is my passion and it is something that I have appreciated working on at both school and home in which I have had first-hand experience in making and fixing components of machines or devices. Moreover, this last summer I did some work experience with a property estate agent where I worked throughout the summer break. I was able to refine my social and interpersonal skills as I had to deal with clients and direct them. I had to deal with any queries and handle the paperwork of lettings and properties. I dealt with the filing and had to ensure that certificates were valid for the safety of homes for clients. This was a huge responsibility because if the certificates weren't valid, I would be held accountable.
Overall, I believe that I am an exceptionally hardworking individual who wants to challenge and study computer science at university. I believe it will help strengthen my knowledge and aid me to find a successful career in the future.
