Following rules is basically most important part of any institution’s student as well as employees. Code of conduct is the most basic step to develop ethical behavior and also guidelines for acceptable and unacceptable behavior in the institution according to the policy. Not only a student need to develop ethical skills but also need to know what is right and what is wrong keeping in mind the cultural values.
Being a student we need to know why cheating is considered wrong, why plagiarism is not allowed to do so, why it is always important to respect teachers and classmates, why it is strictly prohibited not to smoke in the premises etc. these questions are the basic understanding student try to violate, therefore ethical awareness is the key to promote business ethics. Typically, ethics programs convey corporate values, often using codes and policies to guide decisions and behavior, and can include extensive training and evaluating, depending on the organization. They provide guidance in ethical dilemmas.
Differences Between Ethics and Values
Ethics is a branch of philosophy that use ideal way of behavior, it is to judge what is right and what is wrong and it varies from person to person. It is basically a system of moral principles, code of conduct and guiding principles to know the goodness and badness of any action in an organization which is created by an organization or a company itself.
Whereas Values are what person holds to be true. Identifying person’s values allow an individual and organization to understand what is important according to his/her own values. Commitment, sympathy, trustworthiness, dependability, obligation, are cases of values an individual may have. These are individual benchmarks that one sees as vital or profitable.
Ethics and Values are mostly considered same and can be used interchangeably, which mostly confused organization to implement uniqueness, define a meaningful purpose and thereby increases brand value
Ethics Importance in Organizations
Every person wishes to be fair, clean and beneficial for the society at the same time. For that, organizations need to follow rules and maintain legislation standards, engage themselves in fair practices and competition; all of which will benefit the consumer, the society and organization. Primarily, an employee, consumer all are the ones who gets benefit from implementing ethics in the society. Some of the basic needs for which ethics importance is known are; satisfying consumer needs, improving decision making, uniting people on one platform, maintaining credibility and loyalty, securing the society and long term gains etc. These above mentioned factors are the basis to have a long term business and getting benefits and also trust from the consumers and other stakeholders to maintain on top.
Decision making is one of the strongest and important factor in any organization therefore it is important for each employee to knows laws and rules, different between right and wrong to make any decision which would not affect organization’s reputation and relationship with other stakeholders. It is said that a company which works in their own ethical guidelines strictly are the ones who never get fined for poor business.
Businesses that do not follow any kind of ethical code or fulfill their social responsibility have wider disadvantages. Unethical behavior can harm the reputation of a company and make it less attractive to stakeholders. This implies that the resulting profit could drop. Without the ethical hiring system, hiring one employee who is not fit for the position is a corrupt act, then again, discrimination on a character’s race, color, religion, gender, country during hiring the personnel will be an offence in opposition to the discrimination ordinance.
