Worthless of Setting Long Term Goals - Essay

Do you think setting long term goals to reach your dream job is an important thing or not important? When people think of long-term goals, they think it is a waste of time. People might wonder if needing another job to keep them financially stable. Well, setting long-term goals can be a good way to have a plan for your future but you never know what can happen. In long term goals essay I'm going to explain why it's not important to set long lerm goals.

Setting long term goals for your dream job can make you stressed. People can become stressed by thinking of what schooling you need to achieve your dream. Being too stressed can cause life threatening problems in the brain. Stress can change the chemicals in your brain, and which can cause you to have mood swings, forgetting knowledge, cause a lack of sleep and loss of appetite. That is one major reason why making long term goals is not a good idea.

Why can setting long term goals be a waste of time? Nobody can ever know what can happen, in your life or in the world around. You could have planned to do a tour at a few colleges that you had in mind to attend but then suddenly there is a worldwide pandemic and now the world is now on a stay home order. Or there is a family emergency that took away you from doing a long-term goal to pursue your dream job.

Writing long term goals is not just a waste of time. You could make your dream job come true, but what if you change your mind about that field? That is normal. Everybody changes their mind about something or someone. Nobody is perfect, if you make a mistake in your life or make a wrong decision that is ok. One thing people try to do is to be better than someone. It could be a family member or friends. Just do not be someone you are not and be proud of who you are no matter if you cannot get your dream job.

Never knowing what is ahead in your life, being stressed, being discouraged, and getting angry because your long term goals did not go as you planned is why setting long term goals for your dream job is a bad idea. People start thinking about their future as soon as they hit kindergarten. Teachers ask the whole class what they want to be when they grow up in kindergarten. Everybody says things like a police officer, firefighter, nurse, teacher, and a ballerina. And as you get older, the same question is asked but now they are more mature. They might say wrestler, dancer, author, actor/actress, or a fashion model. Dreams change over time. Here is an example: you were asked in kindergarten what you wanted to be when you grow up. You shout out in exultation, “police lady!” Then as the years by. Now in high school, the principal asks where you see yourself in six years. You say, “In six years I see myself as a movie director.” Then three years go by again and the principal asks again, but your answer is different from before because dreams change. That is why setting long term goals is not worth the stress, anxiety, and time.
