A Research Reflection On Mark Zuckerberg

I am researching Mark Elliot Zuckerberg because he is the founder of Facebook and he is an interesting person. He born in White Plains, New York on 14 May 1984. He grows up in well- educated Jewish family. His father, Edward Zuckerberg, a dentist and his mother, Karen who worked as psychiatrist and he also 3 siblings: Arielle, Donna and Randi. In his youth, Mark dominated his class with outstanding performace and won many prizes. The highest level schooling he had before he dropped out of Harvard University to finish his project is sophomore year.

A decade later, he did get an honorary degree from Harvard. Facebook concept started when Mark and his colleagues created Facemash which is a program that allow user to pick who they think is hotter from their fellow students. They come up with the ideas of just connect people through the internet because in his time, it lacked and people hardly connect. He started because he is trying to let people connect and also creating a worldwide student directory. It was successful on their first try. For instance, 450 visitors and 22000 photo-views were recorded in Facemash within its early two hours. Also, when the first version of facebook “TheFacebook” was launched, many people supports and used it platform. However, they did encounter many problems. For example, upon its released three Harvard seniors filed a lawsuit resulting loss of 1. 2 million shares. Last year, Mark was summoned by US Congress about usage of personal data.

After this event, he was heavily memed by the internet. Facebook is currently the largest social media platform with 2230000000 monthly active users. Facebook also owned other companies including Messenger, Oculus, WhatsApp, Instagram etc. I think his calm and hardworking characteristic contributed to his success because even in tough times or controversy, he is able to stay calm and solve it. Also he is an introvert making him unique and attracts a lot of attention in the internet. The biggest lesson I learned from researching Mark Zuckerberg is that he is an atheist but he respects other religions and believe that religion is very important and even though he is introvert, he try his best to talk to the community.
