A Review Of Eytan Uliel’s Man Mission

Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is a very interesting book to read. The author summarises the story as a story of 'Four men, fifteen years and one epic story'. This is the perfect description of the book. In more detail however, Man Mission is a story about four men who are obsessed with finding a rugged activity to do each year for a period of 7 to 8 days as proof of their evident manhood. During this short period each year, they are able to get away from their usually boring and monotonous lives and live like cavemen without any actual world problems. Over the years, customs and traditions are developed and their bond becomes only stronger with time. The story also goes ahead to give some insight into a typical man's brain thus in a way, helps a reader have an inkling of what it feels like to be a man. There is a lot to be enjoyed about the book and to state it all, what I enjoyed most about the book is the point of view in which it is written. Having the book written from a point of view of the weakest member of the group makes it very much more hilarious than if it were written from the point of view of the manliest, most rugged and daring member of the Man Mission crew.

Also, the traditions that are developed with time are a key point. In my opinion, traditions go a long way in showing just how strong a friendship has become, to the extent that an event won't seem complete until a custom gets to be fulfilled. The various activities that these men engage in are well explained to the extent that a vivid imagination develops in the mind of the reader making everything seem exceptionally real and much more enjoyable. There is profanity used in this book and it was first used on page seven in a phrase that goes,'let's book tickets, get on a plane and f**k go'. These profanities however only add to the collective humour of the book. There is not a thing I disliked about the plot of the book and therefore it is a well planned and 'executed' book. Also, there is a lot to be learned from this book, not just about the infamous 'guy code' but also about life and friendship in general. This book has personally taught me a lot and opened my eyes to the various possibilities of a life well lived. As far as editing goes, there is not a single spelling error, typo or even grammatical error in the book. This even makes it perfect for reading. I would recommend that this book be read by people above the age of 16 because of the scattered scenes in which profane language is used. There are no erotic scenes in the book though. All factors considered, Man Mission is a must read and therefore deserves a very enthusiastic 4 out of 4 starsrating.
