An Explanation Of My Artwork
The previous artwork The Senster (1970) is a cybernetic sculpture. As well as it is the first artwork of a robot by computer-controlled, showing interactive art between machine and human. The Senster (1970 ) works by using circuit systems and computers to control the movement of machinery to identify and respond sound on around it. Most people believe when real movement sense is combined with Senster's large-scale appearance and multiplicity data. It will make audiences have an illusion of real life-like. As Ihnatowicz concludes, people seem to be quite willing to indoctrinate it with some form of animal intelligence, and the general atmosphere around it is quite like that of a zoo.
My artwork is a mechanical sculpture. When sculpture stays alone, It will be swaying its head and body from side to side; when people close to, it will try to detect that person by moving its body. After it finds this person, it will give some feedback, like walks up to that person. At the same time, this person also needs to give some response to it, like looking at its eyes or touch its head. And then, it will observe that person, following their movement with its head and body. According to the Klaczynski's opinion, this work follows the strategy of system. All of its interactive results are controlled by computer systems. It displays the result of an internal interaction.
In this interactive art, participants play the important role. They are not just as the interactive behaviours initiator, and also they are the source of a mechanical information. As Huhtamo said, one of the aspects of interactive art, the artwork should be activated by the user. The significance of artistic work is to give the audience more choices to actively explain a work, rather than passively thinking about the answer. The artwork receives the action of the participants through a camera. And then transmit information to the computer. The computer's information processing system responds accordingly and sends it to the machine. Base on responses, the machine makes the relative action. In this process, the participants may have some thinking. The purpose of the artwork is to explore the relationship between man and machine.
The main idea is to create a sense of reality through mechanical movement and reaction to various behaviours so that the participants have an illusion to face real creatures. For today, with the development of science and technology, human beings rely more and more on machines. Therefore, I make this artwork to explore human attitudes with machinery. Interaction Diagram Audiences is for all the person, specially, who are interested in the mechanical sculpture and computer.
