Analysis Of Rupert Murdoch’s Leadership

From the Hacking of Phone Scandal, the assessment of Rupert Murdoch leadership qualities shows the following.

As a good leader, he clarifies the societal values assertively when he denied his taking part in the hacking process and said that whoever is involved is going to pay for it. However, he pretends to know nothing about it.

Rupert Murdoch leads by an example. After, the hearing he goes ahead to form a team to conduct investigations about the hacking. He promised that, the team created, the Management and Standards Committee (MSC), would work hand in hand with police and will ensure transparency.

From the Rupert’s success business, we can tell that he foresees the future through imagination and, plans for it appropriately. He had calculated his way up the corporate world through a series of well schemed business ventures.

He teamed up with the right people who share common values with him. This encourages consultation. Rupert, remained focused and fixed to achieving his business goals.

By exploring his journey to success we can see that he seized several opportunities and tried several initiatives before reaching where he is. He has grown through a series of small Publishing Companies, building on experience and improving as time goes by.

A good leader must venture into activities which are outside the norm so as to experiment and take risks. Rupert does it in consistence that brings him some success, lessons to be learnt, and some experience. His first business venture was tabloids, small newspapers that talk about sensational issues. Later, through various attempts he transformed it into an empire that further grew into an international publishing company that could get books and magazines to publish from even outside Australia. This shows determination and persistence.

A good leader, just like Rupert, believes in teamwork and collaboration. He creates a team to carry out investigations on the phone hacking case. Further, he advices the team to work closely with police detectives to enhance transparency. This move encourages teamwork, relationship building, and trust. In his business, he adopts mergers.

He strengthens others through inspiration, determination, and competence. According to The Times newspaper editor, Hold Evans, Rupert ventured into his work with special attention to details, layout specifications, and content instructions, which later earned him a Nobel Prize.

However, Rupert does not seem to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of others especially in the New Publishing Company. He puts Evans under so much pressure, to a point that they even fought. Evan resigns to escape Rupert’s assaults and incessant harassment which cause embarrassment. Recognize contributions by showing appreciation for individual excellence.

Good leaders are supposed to celebrate values and victories by creating a spirit of community. Rupert does this by working with others to bring the best out of them and promote efficiency.
