Analysis Of The Main Learning Theories

A learning theory is the ability to act in a given vogue which results from practical or other forms of Experience. They give us perspective of looking at the same thing but with different point of view. A set of principles provided to describe a phenomenon. Learning theories explain how learning and teaching theories should be.

One of the many ways people can learn is Behavioural learning it is the interaction between a particular person and environment what we observe usually Sharpen our minds in terms of observable phenomena as B. F Skinners theory he made an experiment where rewarding the consequence makes the response probability high to rise where as punishing the consequences make it less likely. Situations can be controlled or modified by consequences. Pavelo experimented trigger involuntary response with getting use to something that triggers our consciousness and minds the environment determines behaviourism we respond to things but dose not mean we won’t change with different situations that is why our personalities develop throw life time. The way I think people will learn using behaviourist theories is that people often react where there is a reinforcement or consequences or getting used to things with reputation. Cognitive learning theory Is understanding how mind understands and retain information building prior to knowledge like a computer where information comes in then get’s processed. In our mind learning takes place it is basically building prior knowledge processing and describing such as how to acquire knowledge, thinking, collecting, organising, retrieving or problem solving by mind sequence. It is a response to behaviourism often used in class room teaching by using pre skills, exercise, practices, creating interest in learning that help prior learning. Teaching in a way that the idea to students can easily be understood.

As Albert Bandura suggests that students learn by observing. Cognitive scientists believe mental studies can and should be studied scientifically; using sensory memory to short term memory then to long term memory an experiment done in 1966 showed that people are more likely to recall short term memory’s even if it stays for a short period of time. The way I think people learn in cognitive theory is by observing, processing and retaining information in there mind. Constructivism is a theory that equates learning with creating meanings from higher order reasoning, thinking skills and problem solving. Learning is more meaningful when you are abel to interact with a problem or a concept and find your own best way to solve it. It utilises interactive teaching strategies to create meaningful contexts based on own experience. Students learn on their own throw experience, teachers are their guide and gives them the facility but do not tell them what to do they have to discover things on their own. It is self discovery of new ideas. Some of the ways teachers can teach student’s using constructive theory is by role playing, students debating on topics, real world experience such as internship. As John Green stated learning is as cartography students should lead discussion and follow individual ideas. Some of the benefits of constructive are problem solving on your own, higher order thinking skill, collaborative work and many more. I think the way people learn in constructive theory is by building up their knowledge through there effort and the way the had understood the situation.

Connectivism learning theories is a new theory developed by George Simon and Steven Dawson it was recently discovered it is sealing down a knowledge brining together information from social and technology referring to things like you tube, news paper, blog, digitals and connecting it to your prior knowledge and getting to a conclusion of learning throw the processes. It is personal and students choose what and how to learn as well as can share similar knowledge throw a digital plat form. Every one has access to it and is more affordable you are not excepted to go to school and sit in a class room if a student can’t keep up with the lectures given in class then connectivism is the best ways to learn also there is always a new information in this theory. I believe students learn on this theory is more modern and accessible students have to use the technology to build up there knowledges. In short Descriptive asks questions what is learning and how dose it happen. Prescriptive guide as how we learn and gives us methods and instructions. Behaviourism is like a black box regular expected responses and reputations. Cognitivism is like a computer where you need to recall stored information. Constructive is using own knowledge and skills to solve problems. Connectivism is where you look for different ideas in the technology and connect it to your prior knowledge. I personally prefer learning on constructive theories because I think it is best when students learn on there own and discover things they will develop more and dose not always require a guide telling them what to do. The way you understood things and the way you do things is always different from every one and I believe that is one of the best things about this theory.
