The stronger and more clear message of the author Gary Soto it’s in the very end of the poem “I took the nickel from my pocket, then an orange, and set them quietly on the counter when i look up, the lady's eyes meet mine, and held them, knowing very well it was all.” this its it he gave all he had to make the girl he loves happy “people thats are in love are disposed to gave it all for the person they love”.
The theme of the poem and the message it gives to us is deep connection of how in real life this happens not just on young people but with all ages we all fell in love the same way or similar when we fall in love we are disposed to give it all for that person.
