Analysis Of Views Of Education Behaviorism And Humanism Angles
Behaviorism is described as learning behaviors that can be observed and measured. In order succeed with behaviorism you almost have to use a reinforcement key. It described also in our book that education is the process of behavioral engineering. We as soon to be teachers have to remember to create effective learning environments for all students.
Humanism is described a joyful service for the better of all humanity. Humanism is actually defined as religious freedom. When looking at this ism you can see this philosophy overall is centered over man which also measures all activities in the world. This is also defined as human dignity and love of nature. Humans tend to be solving problems with the thought of no religious institutions influence them.
Personal Example
Behaviorism
I work with a student A at my practicum who is a problem student. Student A refuses to do homework. When student A does homework it is only half way done. With this student a I use reinforcements negative and positive. I use stamps with this student in special education. If student A reads longer than 30 min its two stamps. If student A decides not to do homework in class then we send it home with no stamps for the day.
Humanism
When I was a student in high school I remember that in 9th grade we had to read the book “The Giver”. When you look into this book they story is set for the future. When you look into this book there is no freedom, every choice is made on the group in society rather than the individual self. One line they always mentioned in the book was “It’s the choosing that’s important, isn’t it”. (The Giver) From this book it made me realize that it better to live with emotion and freedom. The quote I cited is to believe it is better making your own choices. Even if the choice you chose is wrong.
Christian Worldview
Behaviorism
I would definitely say that behaviorism is very compatible with Christian worldview because human beings are merciful of their environment. In John 3: 3-6 says, “Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. ” (The NIV Bible) Human beings have lived on earth ever since God created us in his image. This image is also the ability to make our own decisions.
Humanism
Humanists normally do not believe that God exists. They believe manhood is the highest entity. Humanist don’t use his name because it means nothing to them. They also do not read the bible because they have very little interest. They think that manhood made the bible instead of God. Humanism also sees man as good, and think people about themselves regardless of their behavior. I think when I was going through the worldview the one that caught my eye the most is they reject the idea of “sin nature” meaning they believe whatever they do is okay as long as it hurts no one else. As compared to the bible we are all guilty of violating God’s commands.
