Comparison of Apple VS Samsung: Fame or Technology
Communication has seen several advancements owing to innovations and the rapid growth of technology. It is a thing of the past when people had to wait in queue for an operator to connect their call. A lot has changed since the use of a landline telephone. Cell phones today have all the functions of a telephone, computer, camera and a music player, all packed into a pocket size gadget. In today’s world, cellphones are more of necessity than a luxury.
Due to modernization and to keep up with the fast-paced culture, the younger generation desire to use the latest phone with distinctive features. As per Statista, “the number of smart phone users is forecasted to reach $2. 5 billion in 2019” (Statista,2016). Cell phones are not only used to make phone calls, but people can also surf the internet, listen to music, run different applications and much more. However, the main question arises that which phone manufactured by which company is the best. From the wide range and variety of phones, the top two companies are Apple and Samsung. It is very difficult to compare these companies as they both manufacture phones with the latest technology every year. Users compare phones with its software, camera, applications, price and much more. The latest phone by Apple is the IPHONE XS Max and by Samsung is the GALAXY S9+.
These phones are both distinct in its class as they are up to date with the most modern software. The iPhone operates under the IOS technology, whereas S9+ has the android operating system. Samsung: Samsung electronics co. is a South Korean multinational electronics company headquartered in Suwon, South Korea. The company has assembly plants and sales networks in 80 countries and employs around 308,745 people. As of June 2018, Samsung electronics market cap stood at US$325. 9 billion. Samsung offers a wide range of android-based phones for its users based on price, quality and usage requirements from the very basic Samsung Galaxy J series to the premium S and Note series. The most advanced and recent Samsung android phone is the Samsung Galaxy S9+ and Note 9 which are popular for its fast response and camera. Samsung has shown significant improvements in their products by developing their phones with the latest advancements in technology. With such improvements, Samsung is undoubtedly the leader in the phone market. (Statista, 2016) Samsung offers a wide range of products in the cell phone arena, which gives users the choice of selecting the best option available at their disposal, in accordance with their needs and what they find appealing. Samsung phones have always provided the latest technology, along with exceptional features and superb build quality, which stands out as an obvious choice of smartphones for people. All Samsung phones run Android OS offering widgets to add functionality and flexibility for the user.
The premium Samsung Galaxy S 9 phone competes well with the iPhone X with better hardware. The Samsung Galaxy S9+, for example outmuscles the iPhone X with a faster processor, more RAM, increased battery capacity and better screen resolution. (Simon L, August 23, 2017, p. 1). Samsung has also notched up ahead in the market position with many apple users switching to Samsung premium phones, because of its undeniable performance and quality. As every coin has two sides, even Samsung has its share of shortcomings in certain aspects. Samsung uses the Android Operating System, which makes it less secure and can easily incur viruses. The processor speed and response on Samsung phones are known to slow down after a certain period, which is one of the biggest drawback i. e. they are not long lasting. Considering Samsung phones have many screen sizes, it is difficult to develop applications compared to the Apple iPhones. (Atul P Oct 11, 2017, p. 1). Apple: The release of Apple’s iPhone was one of the most intensively publicized product releases in the history of mobile devices. iPhone was the revolution of smart phones, with the launch of first iPhone, Apple did set a benchmark for other companies to think out of the box and upgrade their products. Apple has been a leader in the stock market with its sales and Apple phones are still the best choice for several cell phone users. Apple had such a strong and loyal customer base, that people spent hours standing in queue for buying the latest iPhone. Apple’s iPhone has always been in the limelight, with its biggest asset, which is the IOS. iPhone has a highly secured network, reason being its closed architecture.
Also, every application accessible on the Apple store is tested, which are free of viruses and that is the main reason for the phones to last longer. Apple has the best user interface, through which customers enjoy using the phone and it is the main cause for its potential customer hold. The advantage of using an iPhone is the updates launched by Apple. Every new update launched by Apple is available to all the models of iPhones, irrespective of new or old. iPhones have never justified the price range with the type of product launched. In accordance with this, Apple has failed to provide any new advancements in their phones, which has led to many users dissatisfied with the company. Apple is known to slow down its older phones, with the launch of every new phone, which had an impact on the sales. While the iPhone wowed users with its exciting design and features, it also outraged many for not allowing installation of third party applications and for working exclusively with AT&T wireless services for the first two years. Software attacks have been developed to get around both limitations. The development of those attacks and further evaluation revealed several vulnerabilities in iPhone security. In this paper, we examine several of the attacks developed for the iPhone as a way of investigating the iPhone’s security structure. We also analyze the security holes that have been discovered and make suggestions for improving iPhone security. (Vaibhav P, May 2008, p. 31).
Samsung has developed its product base so strong, that now it can compete against Apple head to head and even get the better of it with its amazing features and software quality. Samsung has shown such potential with its products, that Samsung’s high-end phones are comparably better than Apple’s IPhone. Samsung’s camera, speed, variety in third party applications, its waterproof certification, undoubtedly wins over iPhone. Samsung with its developments and advancements, provides a wide range of accessibility and they are user friendly. iPhones have off late been hyped because of its customer base. Earlier iPhone was known to be used by the affluent class and having an iPhone was considered a sign of being elite, because of its price range. On the other hand, Samsung has been doing exceptionally well, where Apple has failed to and that has increased their customer base significantly. Analyzing the pros and cons of both the companies, Apple is more on the negative side which evidently puts forth the fact that Samsung is performing tremendously and has accomplished a lot more than Apple, which gives Samsung the upper hand. Today, Samsung though won’t be the market leader, but it is obviously the preferred brand when it comes to selecting a smartphone and its promising approach to constantly introduce modern technology will invariably make Samsung the first choice.
