Application To Get Cecchetto Scholarship
I am applying for Sheila (Angus) Cecchetto Award. I am an international student, originally from Egypt. I am currently enrolled in 6 Engineering courses in third year Biomedical Engineering at Ryerson University. I won't claim that my credentials will blow away competition. However, I have an excellent CGPA which is 3. 920, I've done voluntary and extracurricular activities. What I think is unique and special about me, is my combination of work ethic and my drive to succeed. That is the reason I believe I deserve your scholarship.
My voluntary activities are not limited to Ryerson's community, but also outside it. To begin, I volunteered in International Student Support (ISS) during the orientation week. My role was to assist and answer the questions of new students. In details, I was at the front desk for inquires and signing them for the mandatory appointment with ISS office. Also, I helped organizing students in different meetings and facilitated ice breaker activities to get them engaged with one another. Moreover, I was involved in the campus tour where we take students in a tour around Ryerson and introduce them to different sites on campus. In addition, currently I am a mentor with Tri-mentoring Program (TMP). I was a mentee in my first year and this program helped me a lot to go through my academic year. So, I chose to give back and be a mentor to help other students to have a successful year and give them the advices that I wish I got.
Despite being an international student, I can proudly say I have integrated in the Canadian society in a short time. This is not only because of my strong will to adapt but also, due to my peers, professors and Ryerson's community hospitality. Therefore, I want to make other students have the good experience I had and introduce them to the precious resources Ryerson is offering. Doing all these competing activities has driven me to create a solid work ethic and as well as a solid ability to prioritize, oversee my time, and make sure that I continuously get my work done on time. But this is not totally extraordinary, what is more so uncommon is that I'm always willing to go beyond and above to do a better job, not to get something in return, but because you ought to approach everything in your life with the drive to surpass, work hard, do the proper thing, so that when a troublesome circumstance emerges you are prepared and arranged. Why I merit the grant?
Since I think my achievements, and my drive and diligence to proceed fulfilling, having and will lead me to success. I don’t say this at all presumptuously, university is a harsh road to say the minimal, but I am persuaded I will be fruitful, as I don’t have any other choices.
