Introduction
Ark is an international charity that focuses on making and improving academies through donations and encouragement. Their mission statement is to “transform people lives through education” and to do this they need to encourage and help students through helping them through staff such as teachers. This means they must have a professional way of recruitment to have the most effective teachers. ARK had just started as a charity that supported only one school then started to expand.
Recruitment: This is the process of searching and attracting applicants qualified to fill a roll or position in ARK after this you would then analyse the qualifications and select people who can fill the role this is called selection.
ARK as an international charity hires a lot of staff this is due to different factors that contribute toward how a business hires. One factor that shows why they hire a lot is due to growth since it is an international business this means they must hire a lot of staff to work at each office and school throughout the world this would mean they have a lot more staff to work ate each office therefore meaning that they reach their mission statement a lot faster and in a lot more areas.
Another factor that may mean that ARK needs to recruit is vacancies caused by leavers and having a high staff turnover. This is because, if a business starts firing people a lot and a lot of people are leaving this would lead to vacancies opening therefore less tasks would not be completed costing ark a lot more money which may makes it harder for the business to contributes towards its mission statement. ARK may need to replace existing employees because of personal problems that effects their working ability. This leads to productivity of the staff becoming less efficient. Therefore, means that their profit falls below what’s expected making it harder for them to reach their mission statement.
Internal VS external
Internal: This is when people who are already hired from a business is hired again as part of the business.
External: This is when people from outside the business are hired to work inside a business.
ARK as a widely known charity usually hires both internal and external. ARK has not much of a specification on who can become an employee based on whether you are from outside the business or if you want to be higher in the organisational structure. This is based on the way they advertise as they advertise both inside their business and outside the business.
Job application vs CV
Ark instead of asking for a CV focuses on an application form. The reason why ark may ask for an application form is because it is a questionnaire. This is an advantage to ARK as if it’s a questionnaire it means that its customised to match what ark wants. This means that potential candidates can see if they meet arks needs this this leads to more effective candidates therefore meaning it’s a lot more time effective as their less time being spent on knowing what is what. However, using a cv may be a lot more useful to know a lot more about the candidates but this wouldn’t be a disadvantage as an application forces people to describe themselves to the company which is more important.
Another advantage of ARK having an application is that it can be online this is an advantage is because of its more cost effective as instead of a company having to pay to make a paper application form. It can be done a lot faster and a lot cheaper online this means that the business is managing budget really well therefore leading to more shortlisted candidates for cheaper. However, a problem with this is that certain areas may not have internet access. This could mean they lose out on potential candidates. But by not having an internet access it may not be the best candidate since most people have internet.
Summary
In ARK it is more of a benefit to use and application over a CV. Since ARK is a charity it needs to reach their mission statement this would mean they need to hire people as fast as possible (time efficient) this could be done by using it online. However, by not using a CV they may suffer some problems such as losing out on understanding the candidates and having to pay fees if their technology breaks down.
Overall use of the application form is an excellent and appropriate form for ARK this is because of the advantages that overrule the limitations an example of where this happens is when a problem with application forms as they may only be available for online use and people may not have access however this limitation can be overruled as application forms can be presented in physical copy or online format.
Advertisement (Evaluation)
In ARK the charity advertises school jobs on their website (internal advertisement). This very advantageous because the website would allow them to advertise a lot of jobs a lot and is a lot more efficient than paper this leads to a lot more of an effective away of shortlisting candidates. Therefore, leading to a lot more effective employees and maximising profit. However, the use of the ARK website minimises the potential candidates as some people may not be able to find the website.
Also ARK advertise school jobs on job agencies such as Tes (External advertisement). This is a job agency for teachers they allow people to find jobs. This is an advantage because it is a really known agency this leads to more people signing up for jobs. Therefore, increasing the chances for a person to find a job at ARK central or at school. However, a problem with advertising at Tes is that it isn’t a guarantee a person to fill a vacancy and may take time to update a website.
Another place where ARK advertise jobs is through the TES magazine (External advertisement). This is an advantage to ARK because the TES is a very popular and known magazine this makes the job a lot more seen by candidates. This leads to more candidates and therefore means a higher chance of finding the perfect candidate. However, a problem with this is that you must pay a signup fee and pay a monthly fee this is a disadvantage because many people may not want to pay this leads to people not signing up and therefore means less people sign up to go.
Summary
The use of the TES magazine, ARK website and Tes website are all suitable for ARK for several reasons such as they are really known (TES magazine) and easy to access (Ark website) also they are recommended to a lot of people who want to be teachers (TES website). However, the problem with these forms of advertisement for ARK is some people don’t want to pay a monthly fee for a teacher job (TES Website), You need to make an account and sign up for the jobs in 3 days of starting the form or you have to start again (ARK Website) and it nots a guarantee that you will get the job (TES Website).
Overall I think that the best form of advertisement for ARK is the use of their own website this is because the of the simplicity of updating the websites when a job is no longer available however when it comes to using their own website it makes it harder for candidates to see the website.
