Attitude To Lgbt People
I am so nervous because I am going to confess something to you all: I am a lesbian. Okay, I am just joking. Anyhow, when your first reaction after listening to it is like Ewww… then I have a question for you: Who are we to judge those LGBT people? Now, let’s go back to the topic. Is everyone knows LGBT? What does LGBT stand for? It is the initial of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender. This is the topic that I am going to discuss about today.
According to SAVE (Suicide awareness voices of education), Lesbian, gay, and bisexual young people who are rejected or do not accepted by their family or community are over 8 times more likely to attempt suicide than those whose communities accept them. Yet, each time an LGBTQ person becomes a physical or verbal harassment or abuse victims, they will become 2.5 times more likely to hurt themselves. They are facing violence and inequality just because of who they love, how they look, or who they are.
Guys, you know what I found when I am doing the research of this presentation? So when I goggle about LGBT people, the result shows me 20 LGBT people who changed the world by Thom Senzee, Surprisingly Alan Turing is one of them! Just in case you do not know who he is, the smartphone that everyone is holding right now will not exist without him. He is the founder of computer science and artificial intelligence. Regardless his contributions, the British government arrested him in 1952 for the “crime” of homosexuality.
Don’t you think it is very unfair to him? And to those LGBT people? The societies are so cruel to them. They need to hide themselves in the dark side just because of the one they love is different with us. Therefore, to against this issue, the first thing I need you to do is abandon your preoccupation toward the LGBT group. Then, open your heart and try to talk to them, maybe you may find them no difference with us. Of course it will be perfect if you can accept them and become buddy. However, mind your word when communicate. Language is a very powerful system in the world, it can either becomes a medicine or a weapon. If it is possible, raise up your voices to protest against LGBT discrimination. Remember, “You don’t have to be gay supporter, you just have to be human”.
