Audio Vs. Television Learning In Youth And Adolescents
Audio and television have always been compared to one another when it comes to learning. Some people like listening to audio to learn and some like watching television to learn. Audio can be on the go and more convenient. Television can now be pocket-sized with all the new technology allowing the television to be viewed on your phone. Youth and adolescent learning can be obtained both ways, with downsides to both, which is the better choice? When it comes to learning with audio it provides a different type of learning skills. Listening to audiobooks allows readers to have an opinion of taking their audio on the go. Audiobooks allow readers that struggle with pronunciation to hear the correct pronunciation of words, they're supposed to be visually reading; anywhere they want that makes them comfortable. Parents were elated by the change’s audiobooks brought to the classroom. In this study to determine the impact of the use of audiobooks with struggling readers in a school library audiobook club. Parental responses of how their adolescent responded to the study included: “Yes, it has given him confidence in sounding words and learning how to read in a consistent manner”. Also listening to audiobooks can help non-fluent adolescents or youth to read with a better expression rather than reading word by word.
Audio can allow adolescents or youth to hear direction in which the author was going towards in a regular book. The form of audio in which adolescents are listening to can help adults understand their particular social, emotional, and developmental needs. Television uses a completely different approach. It can teach adolescents and youth about racial harmony, cooperation, kindness, simple arithmetic, and the alphabet through an educational television format. Viewing colors, and scenery allow adolescents and youth to learn the background of the information they're intended to learn. Television impacts adolescents and youth to go and explore different places. Visual aid keeps adolescents and youth stimulated in a different way; it allows them to focus on what they are watching and hearing. Now that adults can download applications on their phone, it allows them to get educational programs for their adolescent or youth in pocket form. This is beneficial for the adolescent or youth because it allows them to focus on something positive. Audio and television learning can have its downside also. Having audio without a visual stimulation could cause the children to not stay focused. When it comes to television the same thing could happen, a boring concept with no upbeat audio will lose the focus of the adolescent or youth. Audio can allow adolescents the freedom to move around and get their heart rate up. Television may not give them enough active movement to stay healthy. Different types of learning and activity come with audio and television learning. It all comes down to people’s opinions of how they want their adolescent or youth to learn. Understanding that there is more than one learning technique used every day will help with the decision. Television may provide the best of both worlds when it comes to learning. The question remains the same: audio or visual which will you choose?
